thanks guys,

I'm happy with the performance of the Scorpions, but had expected a bit more than the 27000 mls I got from the originals.

we'll see how these ones do !!

Iain, I have just looked at the 2 x Scorpions I am changing. Both are dated "2209" which is week 22 of 2009. The car is a 59 plate (from Sept 09) so I guess these are most likely original tyres Shocked Present mileage is 48,000! So that's all good then! 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I used the same local man (GT Tyres in Bell Green) for years. I found he always gave me his best price, plus a friendly and knowledgeable chat, and would always help me out in emergencies. I wouldn't have dreamt of going elsewhere. Only reason I didn't use him last time was that he couldn't get Wintracs, so I went to AJS, who were also excellent, and found me some DAs at a very good price. Now I've moved out of London I'm at a bit of a loss. Got to start again. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

48000 mls !! that's amazing

are they on the front or back axle ? reason I ask is my back ones seemed to be worn more than the front, which I can't understand.

When I took the car, one was on the back, one was the spare. I then fitted my 17" Avon Ranger Ice for the remainder of the "Winter". I refitted the 18" set recently but with the Scorpions on the front - then got the vibration. So certainly, at least one of the Scorpions seemed to have been on the back for 47,000 miles. IME, the fronts show slightly more wear than the backs - understandable, I guess - they do most of the traction and also "all" the steering.

Now (today) have 2 x brand new Scorpions on the front, Iotas on the back.

I'll never buy tyres again from a tyre place.

When I had my 19's, the rears were down to 4mm and the fronts down to 2.5mm. Had a quote for 4 x 235 55 19" continentals at about £890.

So I bought a brand new set of a Evoque 20's for £930, fitted them and sold the 19's for £590.

So I got 4 new wheels and tyres for an outlay of £340!

I will do the same when these tyres are almost gone. But another set and sell on the old wheels.

My father in law has just done the same with his Jag. His rears were shot, fronts at 3mm. Bought a brand new set off eBay which were the same design 20" wheels as on his Jag originally a £900 initial outlay and sold the old ones for £475. So everything new for £425. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I entirely agree with your principle Mav71. U Thumbs Up

So I really don't understand why no one is apparently interested in buying the two very cheap new 18" alloy wheels that I have in the FOR Sale thread - fit the 2 Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season tyres 235/60/R18 107V and sell on the alloys via FleaBay - Bobs ya uncle, you then have almost two (delivery mileage only) free tyres fitted on your Freelie Very Happy

Clearly folks do not have your very sharp accounting skill Mav71 Bow down

Sorry to hijack this thread - I've been trying to find the date numerals on my Goodyear Wranglers. Can't find them on the outside of the tyre - could they be on the inside?

The figures will be on the outside, my Wranglers have biggish numbers stating 2213 on their own away from any other info.

I agree with Mav's view on buying wheels and tyres rather than a new set of tyres. I went from 17" to 18" wheels (including the spare) whilst at the same time swapping 6 month, 8000 mile tyres to brand new ones. Sold the old ones online and overall outlay was about £270. The guy who bought my old wheels went off happy as well. Brilliant. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Had a good look at mine. Only one of the three has the info '5009' in an embossed area next to the DOT details. The other three tyres have the embossed area but no numbers in them. My car was made in early 2010 so I guess they're the original tyres.

Have you checked the other side? The date info only appears on one side of the tyre. I thought it was a legal requirement. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

No, I must admit I haven't checked the other side of the tyres. I'm sure it's there somewhere. I'm waiting for Machine Mart to have more stock of their £50 4x4 trolley jack then I'm going to take the wheels off for a good clean. I'll check then Thumbs Up
