As a frequent west coast visitor, do yourself a favor and grab a double-double from In N Out Burger. Your arteries will hate you, but it's so good!

And remember:
“Every now and then when your life gets complicated and the weasels start closing in, the only cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and then drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas ... with the music at top volume and at least a pint of ether.”

very much before the wife.. 5mth working holiday in usa when I was 21. first a month in Georgia studying poultry farming the an inter-rail type ticket allowing travel all over USA.
Quite often in youth hostels i would meet like minded individuals and hired cars to explore areas further.

memorable events

motoring over the Florida key bridges in a camper van with 2 Swedish girls #(not quite as exciting as it sounds Confused )
An overnight bus trip in Baja Mexico - never do that, ever
Cindy - patent lawyer from Seattle Whistle
New years eve in a youth hostel in Ft. Lauderdale
going to a crazy student party in Washington DC
Seeing the giant chicken statue in Gainsville georgia
Running off the ferry and speeding up the steps of the statue of liberty, so I had 5 minutes to look out of her head before it filled with Japanese tourists.
