New Tyres : pressures ?

I had 4 new Pirelli Scorpion Zero's 235/60/18 fitted at the weekend. £560

old tyres had done 27000mls over the 5 years, probably still legal, but with MOT coming up, etc I wanted them done.

thing is the tyre fitter said I had been overinflating them as per his inspection of the wear pattern ?

I have always had them at 2.2 bars, which it advises on the inside of the driver's door.

what do you guys think ? and what pressure do you keep your tyres at ?

Always had mine at the same, on the third set of Scorpions now, 35k miles on each and changed at 3-4 mm.

I had two sets of Pirelli zero's and religiously kept to the pressure on the door pillar, mainly solo driving but also when towing. When the time came to change at 3mm the wear was even across the tyres so was happy that the pressure was correct.

Is the pressure gauge you use fairly accurate ?

Hi guys,

yes my pressure gauge is accurate as far as I know ( Michelin digital )

I was hoping for about 35000mls from the tyres, so a bit disappointed in that, but was always happy with the handling, ride, etc, so that's why I went for them again.

Two Michelin digital guages, one built in to a pump and one just a guage. 2psi difference between them.

I guess tyre tread doesn't lie, if you have less tread in the centre than both edges, then over inflated.

The pump reads lower and my tyres seem to wear pretty evenly so it's probably correct.

I find that digital gauges tend to not be the most accurate (from my experience).

I tried a few and whent back to my trusty analogue gauge after getting different readings all the time.

Try a local tyre fitters to compare readings I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Just ask for a tyre health /pressure check.
