Headlight Switch Position !!

Ok, confused yet again....

When the light switch position is to 'OFF' (all the way to the left) the main beam is on.

When the light switch position is to 'SIDELIGHT ' (in the middle) the lights are off.

When the light switch position is to 'ON' (position before Auto) they are on

Auto on...

Or something like that haha..basically the lights are not doing what i expect when the switch is in that position.

Is this something to do with day time running lights? Is that not what the Auto position is for. Can this be changed or do i have a faulty switch?

Thanks in advance
Mac

On an '07 UK spec car that wouldn't be right, but it may well be something to do with day time running lights for the continent.

On a UK car off is off. Sidelights is only sidelights - headlights are off. And auto is daylight-sensitive - lights are off when it's daylight, and come on (side and headlights) as it gets darker.

It could well be Pab..

I have tried googling etc but cant seem to find anything. I am thinking its not a fault and rather more a 'setting'

I dont want to go into the Dealar at this stage...at the end of the day the lights are working...just these little things'not knowing' gets me grrrr haha...

Thx for the reply Smile

Slightly confused Mac - When you say main beam is on, do you actually mean "main beam" (German Fernlicht) or "dipped beam" (German Abblendlicht).
If the former then yes you have a problem! If the latter then I suspect it is just something to do with some rule about having your lights on while driving (as in Sweden). If so, your dealer should be able to modify it for you if you wish.
The auto position only switches the lights on when it's dark, so wouldn't work in rain, for example.

Just one addition to that: In the Auto position, the lights will come on once the (Auto) wipers sweep 4 times.

Is that in addition to 'normal' auto lights operation? My auto lights just come on when it gets dark enough. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Steve, with lights and wipers set to "Auto", lights will come on once the rain is sufficient to cause the wipers to make 4 continuous sweeps at normal speed (but not 4 intermittent sweeps). IME, this seems to be regardless of the ambient light at the time.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

Ok my fault when i said main beam. I meant dipped beam . Sorry.

My Freelander came from Holland and although its not compulsary there like in Norway and Denmark for example it is recommended.

To Clarify. When the light switch is in the off position the dipped beam is on. All the other switch positions are as they are normally.

Maybe it has been set so that they are on all the time. I really dont know. Its not a drama really..if i want them off i have to switch to 'sidelights'

Just confused me a little in the beginning.

From your clarification, it does sound as though your car has been configured in "Scandinavian Mode".

Dealer will be able to reconfigure it for you for some beer tokens.
