This Corrosion

Have only had my GS for a couple of months now and popped the bonnet this morning for a mooch. It was registered in Sep 2010 and has covered 58k miles - is this amount of corrosion 'normal' for it's age?

It came from the Carlisle area. Wire wool time?

No sign of water damage inside, thankfully. Was it bad around Carlisle, then?

That does look to be excessive, a harsh environment of salt water or road rock salt gritting maybe.
My previous FL2 was a year younger than yours and the only corrosion if you could call it that was the alloy metalwork tainting, the bolts and clamps were still in good nick.

Insurance write off or possibly even a dealer repair to the inside, from a write off, seats carpets etc, where did you get it and what was it like when you bought it? possibly it has already had the wire wool treatment and that's why it's like that. I think I may ask the place you got it a few questions my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Let me get this straight. You've had it a couple months now and you've only just popped the bonnet to have a look? I don't think much of your chances of any sort of remedy from the seller after this amount of time unless it was an undisclosed write off. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

It came from a Land Rover dealer - one of their approved used vehicles.

Slightly in my defence, it was in very, very good external condition - when I first saw the corrosion I thought it might be odd but didn't really pay too much attention - but thanks for trying to make me feel like a Censored though, Steve D

Dartman the One - It surely to God shouldn't be an insurance write-off coming from a main dealer...?! There is no corrosion to the bodywork at all.

I could be a long way from the truth but my guess is its been covered in acid based alloy wheel cleaner b4 sale.
Could be wrong but I did the very same thing a few years ago on an old petrol go cart, looked great at the time but within a couple of months that's the affect it had.

Theres a lot of alloy under there to clean and what better way to do it?

Could be wrong but that was my 1st thoughts.

Thanks for that - that's interesting. I am a very long way from the supplying dealer so can't pop it round there to see them, unfortunately.

If it is acid cleaner... what do i do now? Whistle
