Keep your "spare" energy; indeed keep anything you consider "yours" especially the midges.

As a Mercian and an Englishman only by nationhood I am nether British or for the Union. This United Kingdom malarkey is for palaeontologists, communists and fascists only.

Living in the past binds folks to repeat the mistakes thereof and not to advance, to create, to experiment and to fix what is clearly wrong or inappropriate for the here and now. Palatine administration from Westminster is as archaic and without merit as was the Jacobite rebellion's intent to place Charles Edward Stuart on the English throne.

If Scotland or any other part of this dysfunctional United Kingdom wishes, through a truly transparent democratic process, to seek self determination then so be it. Let them steer their own course, manage their own affairs, and if it goes pear shaped then don't come seeking bailouts from close neighbours - chart a course to Brussels just like everyone else. On the other hand should utopia dawn then the Scottish nation can for the first time accurately and proudly sing: Scotland was the Brave.

Yes live and let live, if the Scots want to be independent then hello new old neighbour (do you want to buy some quality chicken?), if not we will bump along in the traditional rocky way we always do.

Scots seem to endure Yorkshire folk, they tell me its the southerners they dont like, yet so many of them get top jobs in London?

With EU laws then I dont think much will change for anyone , independence or not. the borders will be open and anyone would be able to cross over choosing which country is paying the best benefits that month. At work

United Kingdom

If Scotland goes independent, they will not automatically become an EU member state and so the free movement of workers and goods between member states for example, would not apply between Scotland and the remainder of the UK. This is because the remainder of the UK would still be a member state and Scotland would not.

Scotland would have to apply if it wanted to join the EU but as things stand, the 'No' vote is in a comfortable lead and I am placing my money firmly on them staying in.

One key point that has been raised by some 'experts' is that when it comes to global markets and big business, Edinburgh and Glasgow simply don't have the clout to be a big player at the table. London has the status and clout on the world stage and Scotland would have to cope without that power.

I agree with what you have said but one thing I don't understand is when we joined the EU we did it under the United Kingdom so if Scotland went independent that would be a big percentage of the United Kingdom gone so if one was kicked out of the EU then so would the other, I suspect this would be decided in a vote by the other EU country's if England would get to stay and what sort of clout they would be allowed to have

To me it would be much more sensible just to give Scotland more right to regulate its self and stay together 1995 P38 now dead

Contentious legality Doctor that only puts tax payers' funds into the pockets of barristers whereas those funds (£'s Sterling or MacClan Coin) could be spent more wisely on infrastructure improvements that both nations so desperately need.

Court friendship not in-court belligerence should be on the listings post referendum.

The portion/percentage doesn't matter for the aspect of being a member state. The UK, although reduced in size without Scotland, is still a member of the EU. Scotland will have sought complete independence from the UK and to have complete control of its own affairs and as such it would need to apply to join the EU. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
