Hands free Telephone Microphone Problem

The quality of reception on the factory installed hands free telephone microphone(s) on my 2010 Freelander 2 appeared to suddenly degrade. Callers all state that I have become very hard to hear whilst hands free.
It is apparent that only the microphone installed in the left hand side of the front courtesy light panel is operating. If there is another microphone in the right side of the panel it does not work which would possibly explain the problem. However I do not want to dismantle this panel to find out. Is anyone aware if microphones are normally installed in both sides of this panel?

There appears to be only one microphone, located as you say in the overhead panel. Maybe it has become detached from it's usual position, or has simply failed?

Try turning up the volume on the handset. Sure there is an old thread about this somewhere, if the volume of the handset is set to low it plays up with the microphone on the vehicle.
