To save carrying adapters for trailers etc I just wired a new 13pin for my caravan, but kept the 12n and linked the wires up, I figured it was the 12s that was redundant. |

I have been in a similar dilemma. My first FL2 had an after market tow bar and 13 pin electrics. I had already converted the 'van to 13 pin using a plug that accepted twin cables. Worked without a problem. My new(er) FL2 has a LR fitted tow bar with twin sockets. The LR electrics are superbly wired with "potted" wiring in the back of the sockets. Therefore not easy to convert the existing loom and ridiculously too expensive at £70 to change the whole cable just to change the socket. And then there is the twin socket bracket to modify too. Presently I have bought two new 7 type plugs (@ £4 ea) and will convert the 'van back to twin. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Amendment to the above: I bought a new 13 pin socket and 2M of cable then chopped back the existing LR twin socket cables to make in-line connections between the original LR loom and the new cable routed into the L/H boot trim panel. Together with a new tow bar socket bracket sourced through the Forum (thanks Iliacus) it has made a very neat conversion costing less than £30. Pleased I decided to keep to 13-pin - it is a better design!
