Rear Passenger door Lock failure

Hi,

Having had the main dealer recently replace a failed rear differential (50% cost paid by LR), I now have a failed rear door lock - probably not as expensive but still bloody annoying!

I can open the door from the Inside, but not at all from the outside. Presume its a solenoid or something, but wonder if its something I could fix/replace myself? Anybody out there know what to do or got any advice....

Thanks.

Hi
Had the same problem myself earlier this year see general post 19th may 2013.. was quoted £300..to fix so left it and after months of being out of action. suddenly it just started working again the other day..weird eh.. so would suggest leave it if you can manage for a month or two.. just check it before leaving vehicle for security..and fingers crossed..good luck.. lucan400

Sad I to am now having rear side door lock failure after having a winter check at stealers, seems to be a common fault, do LR know about it?

Will have a go at fixing, excellent photos in your gallery, just wait for the warmer weather.

One of my passenger doors stopped working a month out of warranty. I asked Mike at Customer services to see if he could help. I got me a 33% contribution which all in all cost me 150 to have fixed. The part is around 90 quid. There is a technical bulletin

I wish I was this lucky. All 4 my door locks have now failed. Two were repaired under warrantee, one more a month out of warrantee and then a year later the last one fai Banging Head led at the same time the air conditioner pack in.. Not impressed

I just replaced the left rear door lock on ours, got the lock from Duckworths at a good price.

Took a few hours to change it out. Having the workshop manual procedures was helpful, even though there are a few "wrong" things noted in them.

The biggest problem is getting the small section of the exterior door handle off without breaking the Censored plastic tabs. Not fun... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Replaced both back door locks and one front door lock, just waiting for the drivers door one to fail - new lock is in the garage.

Just a thought, all three locks that have failed are not expected to operate electrically every time you unlock the car - UNLESS you have "single press unlock all doors" enabled, which I have.
Am I using these locks more than was intended by the LR designers?
The locks also fit other LR vehicles eg RR sport. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
