Hi all

I have a rattle that is coming from the lower rear, you notice it most on start up and shut down but it is getting worse ie driving over speed bumps etc.
It seems to be coming from the back box area but having given it a cautionary prod and lift with my foot the back box seems secure.
I won't be able to get a look until the weekend but just wondered if anyone had suffered the same or could shed any light? I'm thinking (hoping) possibly loose heat sheild above back box?

Could it be the jack rattling about ?

No it's definitely coming from that area because when I lift the back box with my foot and jiggle it the noise appears.

There's a long recent thread on this - try a search. Otherwise the most likely is an underbody heat shield, especially if you've been off-road.

Yep you're right just been under and rear heat shield hanging off, totally corroded on all 6 nuts.
Will it hurt to run the thing without the heat shield?

I assume it's there for a reason! That said, the shields on my last one were pretty bent and I didn't notice any problems. I suppose it depends what they are shielding. Can't be too expensive to replace surely?

Can it not be refitted using bigger washers

No the area that gets bolted is almost totally gone and not enough material to use washer on 5 out of 6 anchor points.
