My TD4 auto does not make the noise you described, and apart from the intermittent fob problem is absolutely OK at present. |

It should be the torque converter. It happens to me if I accelerate gently and with some load like diriving uphill and turning for example. I think it is absolutely normal. Last edited by attox on 20th Feb 2008 2:57 pm. Edited 1 time in total |

"Attox" I'm pretty sure this shouldn't happen. I have had automatic cars in the past and never had the problem with the Torque Convertor! This is in the gearbox isn't It?

I think I have the same problem. I noticed a strange noise when it goes from the 1set to the second gear.... I'll bring the car to my dealer in two weeks..... By chance, my dealer has noticed the noise during a test drive with me..... We'll see in two weeks! |

I also get a sound like this in my auto, when accelerationg away and turning at the same time, not always though, sounds like sonething is slipping (like quiet wheelspin). I'd certainly be interested to find out what it is. |

Have a look at your rpm dial if it jumps while you hear this it's probably a cluch problem . Also see if it happens while going uphill with heavy load. Probably nothing but a normal behaivour of this over electroniked FL2. On the other hand don't accelerate and it won't hapen FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER |

I get this but I put it down to the turbo dumping un-needed air as you accelerate |

It's that or the turbo 'overboost' feature. |

I am not so sure about that as when you accelerate the engine needs lot of more air and not less. The turbo is driven by the exhaust gasses that compress more air (not directy but thriugh a compressor) in the engine's in the intake stage. I took my car yesterday to my dealer (the very same that told me two weeks ago: "Definitely, this car has a problem!"). The car stays their the whole day. At the end of the day, the dealer called me and told me to pick up my car. 15 minutes later, as I went their to pick up the car, the same guy who heard that noise weeks ago told me ..... guess what ? THIS IS NORMAL! Meaning, this noise is happening on EVERY diesel engines. He told me that this strange noise was coming from the turbo getting in action..... NO WAY I will believe that! As a matter of fact, if that's the turbo, why is that only happening when the gearbox switches from the 1st to the 2nd gear ?????.... Anyway.... the guy told me that the noise "still to be fixed" by LR..... but for now on... they do not have any solution....
