towbar wiring weirdness

Hi all,
So i followed the great wiring details in this post: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic462.html
but i've been left with a bit of a funny - my trailer tail lights are now constantly on which is very strange.

the only difference is that the trailer relay I have (from witter) has a nearside tail light and offside tail light (not indicator lights).

Therefore I picked up the purple/green to the nearside tail light, and white/orange to the offside tail light.
However there were two of each of the above in the loom, so I chose the smaller diameter cables to make my connection.

Have any of you come across this, when i get some time, I will change the pickup cables to the larger diameter cables to see if it makes any difference.

thanks in advance,
Liamo.

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black

Wow, I have exactly the same issue at the minute and have been scouring the internet looking for answers!
Really don't want to give up just yet.

Out of interest, what year is your FL?

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black

Well, I had another look at it this morning and have put it down to a broken relay. I had a beep noise when the fuse was put in place but no LED as the instructions suggested.

I disconnected the input connector and recorded 12v at each of the inputs when each one was switched on so that seemed fine. With the connector still off the relay, I had 12v at the fog light and tail light outputs with only the 12v feed and ground connected so something clearly not right.

I then took the step of connecting the trailer lights directly to the vehicle loom and everything worked fine....problem appears to be a broken relay.

I did not get any warning lights on the dash either so I'm not really sure the relay is strictly necessary?

Hope this helps
