Hello All! Just wondering if anyone has any idea as to what this could be. We've had our 57 plate Freelander 2 GS for just under 2 years and on only three occasions when traveling at around 60+mph the car develops a vibration that builds up from nothing. Once the car has stopped and starts drives after only a 2 minute pause there is no sign of the vibration.

The first time this happened last summer we pulled over on the motorway thinking we had a flat tyre as it's that sort of vibration that builds up. My wife had the same issue 4 weeks ago and again last week.

The car has developed a squeak from the right rear caliper in the past couple of days and have had trouble with the break shoes marking the disc when we first bought the car and on occasion the shoes aren't being released with the hand break so spring back when driving off. Could the hand brake be the issue??

I don't think it's the diff but do have Grabber AT's fitted so road noise is increased.

It's the handbrake mechanism and shoes. I had exactly the same happen to me. Andyfr

Phew... I was starting to think that the rear diff needed an overhaul.

What was involved with getting yours sorted?? 2007 LR Freelander 2 GS - factory tints, LR mud flaps, 2013 facelift)

They replaced the mechanism and brake shoes. I only paid for the shoes as it was done under warranty so I can't tell you how much it will cost. Andyfr

yes its a common problem with the handbrake shoes sticking on ive done mine twice,ive put copper grease on the part that seizes up this time(expander link).also had rear strut go on me caused a noise every now and then like going over rumble strips,oil seal had gone noticed leg was wet with oil.

Its just the expanders that sieze up.wonder if this part could be heated up and dipped/quenched in old engine oil ,think its called oil blackening /tempering/annealing? to stop it rusting?any thoughts on this?

Same happened to me. Handbrake (not hand break ) shoes sticking.
It can make the drum very hot which can dry up the grease in the wheel bearing.
Sooner you get it done the better  Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

+1 to that I have had the same problem with mine since buying it in December, it even did it on the test drive but the dealer said they could not find anything wrong with it so I guess I know what I'm doing now on Saturday.
