No am signal on radio

Hi Folks.
Hope someone can help. I have just bought my wife a 2008 diesel auto.SE.
She listens to Classic Gold but there is absolutely no signal on AM.
Took it to an audio specialist who plugged an external aerial directly into the back and basically said it needs a new radio.
It's not the boost or amp which is at fault. The supplying dealer has 3 different Freelandar 2.s in stock and offered to swap the radio but none of them can pick up any AM stations, no crackle, poor reception, just a big fat nothing.
Is this an inherent problem with all 2008 Freelanders.
Obviously I will insist that the dealer renews the Radio, but just would appreciate some hard facts.
Thank you in anticipation.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can't get AM, I thought they were FM only units.  MY2014 SD4 XS

Thanks wizking. I think the dealer must have thought that I came down in the last shower when he tried to tell me it was the AM signal in this area!!!
Strange how I get a near perfect signal in my Range Rover and my mini clubman.
Really appreciate your help.

Grab your iPod (or smart phone) and download Intune Radio App, plug into your auxiliary cable, switch your radio to Auxiliary and start listening to your favourite Am/Fm station locally or around the world, quick and simple fix!!
