Fred

I have a MY2013 Freelander which has the facelifted headlights with a single bulb for dip and main - either HB3 halogen or DS3 xenon. I think the principle of operation is basically the same except there is a mechanism for moving the shutter that provides the cut-off for the dip beam pattern to then give main beam once moved. If I recall correctly, it is formed from a matt surfaced metal.

As to fitting a reflective surface shutter, I am not sure. It is true I believe to say that the halogen projector is not as efficient at putting all the light from the bulb out onto the road surface compared to the traditional reflector design as fitted from 2007 to 2010 in the Freelander - hence numerous comments from owners on the brightness of the projector style lamps. I would have thought that LR would have made a reflective shutter if it helped - it might introduce more scattering and possible dazzling.
