Interior / Map Lights - permanent live feed?

Just a quickie, can anyone confirm if the feed to the front interior light and/or map lights are permanently live, i.e. not on a timer, etc? I'm thinking of wiring a dashcam there (with inline fuse) - seems sensible rather than feeding a whole load of cable down to the fuse box...

Thanks,

Andy

I wondered why it has never been asked before as it seems an obvious place to get a feed from. Will be interesting to see the replies! Andyfr

These dashcams draw very little power so I don't see why not..

The only slight issue I've just remembered is that I was planning to use a Smartpower device too - this needs a permanent live AND a switched live - I doubt that I would be that lucky and both would be up there overhead!

The lights are indeed earth switched and permanent 12V powered, but 12V through a power saver relay.
After 10 minutes since ignition off, it switches off (in order not to drain the battery if any lights are left on) and, here we go, no power to the camera...
Is this OK with you?

If I get a dashcam I would just have it working when driving so wiring into the interior light would be okay then? Andyfr

Thanks Alex - that sounds like it would be perfect for your needs, AndyFr

Unfortunately, I need a permanent and switched feed as I want to use the Park Mode on the camera. I picked up my shiny F2 on the Friday and by the following Monday it had been keyed, in exactly the same place (location and on the veh) as my previous car had been Censored

Edit: Alex, are you saying that there is a permanant live and (essentially) switched live (through the relay) available up there?

No. There is only one 12V feed and that 12V feed is ON when the ignition is ON and remains ON for about 10 minutes after switching the ignition OFF.

Interior lights switch off after 30 mins.
I timed them a few times before fitting my auto rear view mirror to power off them

30 minutes for normal lock, 10 minutes for double lock or no lock at all.
Anyway, the time could be modified by modifying the corresponding CCF location.
