I have had my Freelander 2 for just over 3 months and I have noticed the braking system does not work as it should. Even hard braking the car doesnt seem to stop quickly enough. The pedal also feels like it is juddering when it is pressed. There are no warning lights on the dash to indicate a problem. Just wondered if anybody has had a similar problem.

The pedal judder is usually indication that the ABS is operating on a car that has a fully functioning braking system.

For you to say that "it doesn't seem to stop quick enough" is worrying and could be any number of things related to the braking system: worn discs/pads, contaminated brake fluid, problems with cylinders.....the list goes on.

I agree with Dave007, the car needs to visit a workshop. I thought the brakes on my 07 FL2 were really good until the pads were changed last year, once bedded in the brakes were even better. I've had the ABS working (had to work really hard) and didn't really get juddering through the brake pedal.

I had that juddering to the point of looking like Elvis when braking hard.
Took it in and turned out to be warped discs on the front. New discs and pads cured the problem

I've had front brake problems. 2 sets of warped discs (which will cause judder through the pedal). Traced to the front pads not being genuine components and overheating.

If a car has been left inoperative for a few weeks damp gets dragged in the interface of the pad and disc and rust sets in. As steel converts to rust the compound formed is bigger in volume so you can get a thicker part of disc and feel a hammer effect at the brake pedal.

Replacement pads often have the located lugs improperly punched and are tight in the slider grooves and can grab tight and not work or wear tapered. Even with reputable aftermarket pads I often debut the lugs to ensure a slight rattle fit.

Caliper pistons are known to sieze. Damp gets past the dust rubber and creeps into the 'piston ring' groove, rust grows and forces the rubble seal ring to grab the piston.

Given the suspect brakes and the now list of potential causes then if you are not a competent home mechanic it's a 'must' that you take the car to a proficient workshop for anslysis and repairs.
