Just to (hopefully) finish off this thread.....

I picked up a brand new rear parking sensor (LR Part Number: LR039635) today, and went about fitting it.

I had a rummage around, and crawling underneath the car could JUST get my hand onto the back of the faulty sensor. I thought about trying to "Bruce Lee" it out with the rear bumper in situ - however, I was wearing my sensible pants today and thought better of it.

The PFFU factor was pretty high (Potential For F**k Up).

So - off with the bumper, and whilst Dexter was in a state of undress I took a photo:-



I took the opportunity to give all the connectors/wires a liberal squirt of WD40 and packed them with Vaseline.

Incidentally, when removing the old sensor I noticed a significant design change. See photo below - new sensor on the left, dead/old sensor on the right. Note the translucent rubbery seal around the actual sensor on the new part that is not there on the original one.



Have reassembled, and tested the new sensors, and all seems to be working.........for now.

But supplying dealer has agreed to reimburse me. I was happy to fit it myself as it saved me the 70 mile round trip, twice.

Plus I got to have a play taking stuff apart.

The big question is how long will it/they last? From the horror stories on here, I am not optimistic...

Hello, im wondering if im going to replace right outer sensor. LR fault codes told me that there is the fault and dealer told me it might be the sensor, or the wiring. Is it easy to replace the wiring, i have no idea how those wirings goes under the bumber. I have readed that its possible to change outer sensor by removing the fog lamp, advices please ?

Hello, i tried this method. I found the Parking distance control ecu from left rear quarter and there was power cable + 2x 12pins connectors, one to front one to rear. Tryed to take only front connector, hoping that it will stop beep because the fault is on front pdc, but didnt succes, still did beep. Maybe it is possible to take off the front and then connect system remap thing? or maybe changing the ecu to only Rear parking distance ecu =)? any ideas?

Why look to disable the system? At some point it will need fixing. It should be possible to do this, if the front end is unplugged at the control unit, and hence isolated it should be possible to modify the CCF (configuration file) to tell the car it only has the rear part fitted - but then there will be a system present but not functioning... depending on who does this, the cost may be more than buying the part - they can bought second hand on the net at popular auction sites. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Still beeped because now, after internal test, the error changed from faulty front sensor(s) to missing front sensors.

Winslet, reason why to try disable it is because im tired to every year replace some front sensor because of maybe some stones may hit to sensor + road salt is used very much in finland and that melts wirings. And realy, who needs front PDC ? if could decide i would remove all PDC and just convert it to rear camera which is much usefull than pdc system.

Maybe i just have to go to dealer, or maybe its easy job to just replace by my self, but im not interested to replace sensor / wiring all the time from front. have to check when its summer, not now because here finland is very cold season going atm.

i just tryed to get away from the beep / front pdc =)....

i still have problems whit my glow plugs, it wont light them on dashboard. Last time -16c car didnt start, i had to use preheater wich is mounted by cable, front of car and wait forwhile, not sure is it the plugs, or what. Somebody told me it might be faulty temperature sensor which wont give right information about degrees, i have checked the F4 fuse, but there is another fuse whcih is kinda big one, i heard its somekind of timer?
