Servicing Costs

I am curious about what the base servicing costs are around the country - I have just paid £433 for a 30,000 mile service with no extras, seems a bit excessive but I have no previous experience of this dealer.

Cool

Seems a bit excessive to me. got a quote for my first service from local dealer in Aberdeen £344. Might pay to shop around next time. ______________________

Last time I was down at my dealers I had a nose at the menu prices at reception. I am sure the 2yr/30k service was just under £400, compared to £315 for the first service. There is obviously more to do at the higher mileage, but as ever shop around.

I priced a first service with two different dealers, £316 and £299. Service takes two hours and is just an oil and filter change. This appears to be expensive for all that it is.

Yes but don't forget this is how you 'buy' the warranty Whistle Whistle

I think they also change the polen of the AC and check the bushings and other parts of the car at least visually.
They are also supposed to check the car for rust a.s.o.
Expensive yes but we if this is what it takes to keep ourwarranty happy who are we to challange our LR dealer masters Laughing
The reason I am still Laughing is that I did not do my first service yet and therefore did not see what itcosts over here. Probably more as there are only a few LR dealers over here. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

Yeah, that's what they are SUPPOSED to do.

In my experience (not Land Rover so far) if a new car goes in for an oil service, that's all it gets.
I took my Passat in for an oil service when newish and a week later went to kwik fit as the pads were a bit squealy.
They were worn. When I contacted VW dealer and asked why they hadn't mentioned the pads were worn the reply was "Oh we don't take the wheels off on an oil service........ Rolling Eyes

No argument to that really is there.......

Had a look on the Australian part of the forum. Service charges appear to be about half what the are here even with the strong A$. Why do we just sit back and take it!

Could always try an indepedant garage. Provided the car is serviced in accordance with the manfacturers instructions then it won't void the warranty. ______________________

Yeah like a certain one in Aberdeen????

I tried them, used em for two services then on the third, was charged a ridiculous amount for a small service.
Queried it with the boss who never phoned me back incidentally. He said yes the mechanic did the 40,00 service.
I replied yes it was supposed to be a 70,000 service? Plus his mechanic's advisory was to get the timing belt changed and your lot replaced the timing belt last service (60,000) in accordance with manufacturers stipulations.

He investigated and came back to me and said "yes he did the 40,000 service cos he saw it was a 52 plate and assumed it was 4 years old??!!? (even though they did the previous 2 services and had the paperwork)

When I said that it didn't fill me with confidence he replied "well I can't really Censored him, he has come from a (un-named) major garage and that is the way they do things there.
EH??!!!????

He then went on to say "Look there are only so many times I can say sorry" and "Well at least you had more work done than you needed!"

I mentioned that this lack of attention to detail could mean missed potentially deadly problems, but it fell on deaf ears.

And this from a garage that touted the fact they did main dealer servicing at cut price deals.

From then on I have gone to main dealer.

From my experiences many garages are so busy they don't NEED your business, so customer care is crap.

Find a small, independent garage where you know the mechanic(s) personally. (hard to fnd I know and like all good tradesmen, if you can find one, they will be booked till 3 months next year.

But what can you do? Big Cry

first service

My first annual service was at Harwoods of Pulborough, W Sussex. Cost was £366 all-in. Free courtesy car (though FL1!), full valet, plus detailed visual inspection incl bodywork. All completed on time, including a late catch-up for fixing safety recall P009, sun-roof thingy. Very Happy

Excellent staff and service as usual; highly recommended!

Autocar's latest update on their FL2 was that it had just had its first service and they paid £390 for it, which they thought was excessive for an oil & filter change. This would have been in London.

From my experience, that's what you pay for a Mercedes oil change as well, but you do get a tin of sweets thrown in... Freelander 2 TD4 HSE auto Tonga Green/Alpaca

For anyone who lives in Surrey - I noticed when I was in the other day that Hunters in Guildford charge just over £400 for a first service. Compare that to Guava (also an authorised service centre) just down the road from Guildford who quoted me £276 all in, a saving of £130 odd quid. I know where I'll be taking my pride and joy.
