Injector seat cutter

Bad day,

2 blown injector seals nightmare getting them out, one copper washer came out fine the other didn't.
I dented the seat getting it out, now I need to re grind it smooth.
I will be buying a cutter tomorrow but what size do I need to make sure is included. There's 15 flat etc etc.

Cheers guys.

In case anyone is interrelated. I re ground the injector seat,
It took 2mm to get the dent out but I got there.

The car is running better than it ever has! Amazing difference it must have been leaking for ages.

Injector copper gasket

For the benefit of other members please could you describe the 'apparent fault' symptoms and how you identified the single leaking copper washer.
.
It may help other forum members in the future.

Yes of course no problem:

Initially a smell of exhaust fumes (or so we thought) in the cabin.
Spent ages tightening the exhaust to turbo clamp, not that. Checked for leaking / blown exhaust system, not that.
In the end I read something on here where a new FL2 had to go back as an egr pipe was loose. So I took the engine cover off and hey presto, not that.

Then I noticed what looked like oil spatter from
Around injector 3. Looks like if you've ever forgotten to put your oil filler cap back on and gone for a drive.
Only it's not oil, it's unburmt diesel (ok oil) being forced up past the injector and sort of caramelising around the top of the head where the injector pokes out.

It's black and crusty like lava that's cooled, in appearance. And yet sticky when hot.

To test for a leaking injector seal before and after fitting just poor soapy water around the injector port, runt the engine and watch for bubbles.

Hope this helps.

Ps. It is a nightmare of a job getting the injectors out. Horrid Job.

Update which may help others.

So the car lost power and reduced engine warning came up. It then drove fine for a few days, until it got cold again. About 4degreesC. Same intermittent power drop, not DTC stored, not a one. Then it cut out and once restarted drove fine until now really.

Couldn't work it out, it's anew fuel filter by the way, but I drained a bit off to see if there was any water, nothing, stuck millers in the tank, helped a bit, and then that smell started to come into the cabin. Exhausty Fumey nastiness..

I pulled the cover off the engine and poured soapy water over the injectors and hey presto, injector leaking like a sieve.. This is one of the 2 injectors I didn't bother with as I thought they were ok, and it took 2 days to get the 2 middle ones out so I couldn't face it.

Putting 2 and 2 together now, the power loss, intermittent hesitation and sometimes stalling seemed to go hand in hand with a blowing injector seat. It seems to get better for a bit as the sticky deposits seal it back up (to an extent) but eventually it needs sorting.. So I thought sod it lets just do it now. Engine still HOT.

This is where it may help others:

Engine hot, injectors just twist and pull and they come strait out. No messing!
Seriously the whole job start to finish took an hour.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know what size cutter is required to re seat the injectors? I've done my seals but still have a leak so need to recut them. Might just get a kit as they're cheap enough for something I wont be using every day.

I think you're cutting that little out you just need to clean as best as you can after with a hoover and air blow gun.

Grease on the cutter will collect most the shavings. There is plenty of other crap to keep out when cleaning. for this a spongy ear plug works well.
