Adjusting Headlamps for the Continent-Help Please.

I am going over to Holland at Bank Holiday, so I have just removed my headlamps to reset the beam for continental use. According to page 62 of the handbook, you remove the headlamps to adjust the "tourist lever".
I suspect this may only apply to the versions with bi-zenon lights as mine is the standard halogen variety, and guess what... there are no levers.
Has anyone else found this out and how did they overcome it. Will it be a case of some black tape on the headlamp?
Any advice gratefully received thanks.

You need some beam benders and line them up with the dot on the headlamp glass, Only Bi xenons as you guessed have the adjusting feature. Rolling Eyes

Unfortunately it seemsyou cannot do this by yourself as the handbook, as all handbooks are allways quoting tips and instructions mostly for the cars with "have them all extras".

But I've seen here somewhere that some members just take a copy of the light bulb addation with them in order to show if stopped. Anyway if you are not going to have this changed before you go on holiday (and then reput in order afterwards when you go back) maybe if you would try to avoid driving by night would be a goog ideea as during daylight the police will have to have a reason to bring you to a garrage and check the lights.
I normally drive with the lights on but in a case like this I would only drive untill darkness. As this is a Bank Holiday I don't know if it would be woth to go and change twice your headlights settings. Of course it depends where you will stay and if going to town from there is cheaper by cab or by doing these fixings.

Will pay a trip to Halfords to buy some beam benders.

ps even the 52 reg Vectra I used to have had adjustment levers, and you didnt have to take the unit out either!!

Purely manufacturing cost of the headlamp units and the fact that you cannot simply add 'beam bender' stickers to xenons.

It may sound unfriendly to other road users, but in all honesty I wouldn't even worry. When I moved over to Holland in 2002 I took my UK BMW over for the first 6 months and simply tweaked the light level lever to the low setting and never got flashed by people on the road. I did intend to get the beam benders but forgot in amongst moving and then couldn't find them in Holland for a RHD vehicle, understandably.

It really didn't blind people and in Holland a majority of the roads you'll use at night with significant amount of vehicles will be highways and on the backroads you'll find very few cars.....it's not like the UK where you have to go along the twisty bits to get anywhere, it's all highways in Holland.

Sorted it. Idea
Went to a certain overpriced motorists shop, refused to pay £7 for a couple of bits of plastic (am I tight or what?) so I measured these plastic beam benders, went home and made my own out of black insulating tape.
They worked a treat and when I got back I peeled them off carefully and kept them for another time.
