If the item for sale says 'bypass' in it's advert then it will not be a dedicated loom and a software change won't be needed. I see you have an 'Auto' box so a dedicated loom will be an advantage to you as it will adapt your cars gear changes to towing loads automatically.

Yes it does say bypass in the description . Guess as i will be towing a 24ft caravan i should get the dedicated electrics then. Maybe it is better then to have a qualified tow bar fitter do the job as LR want too much money IMO. |

Yes, LR do take the in what they charge. I used a local to me 'biggish' outfit called 'Towone Trailers' to install a removable 'Witter' with dedicated electrics also supplied by 'Witter', at the time I believe I paid around £350 but believe they charge around £440 now including the programming. So it still isn't cheap |

Bought a witter with dedicated electrics and fitted it myself in a morning.(295£).You still need to activate "towing" with JLR SDD or such like. MY2013 GS SD4 Baltic Blue |

Local place wants £490 all in to supply and fit a Witter detachable swan with 13 pin and software sorted.

Not sure whether that's a good price but if you have a MY2013 as your post suggests the electrics are cheaper compared to pre-facelift cars and are 'plug and play', I'd make sure that is in the quote.... no need to sort software which should keep the cost down. Witter bars are not difficult to fit and don't need bumper removal or cutting. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

I eventually fitted a Witter Detachable Tow Kit R41AQ which was quite easy, cost £169. Instead of removing the rear bumper just needed to drill two holes under the nearside rear reflector to torque a couple of bolts. Bought a set of genuine single 13 pin electrices from LR £84 and you are right they are just plug and play and just needed a couple of extra fuses fitted. Job done and just taken the caravan to the dealers for its first service and all went well. So for a grand o total of £253 have a decent tow bar and genuine LR electrics. |

Ditto fredastaire's comment on not needing to drill holes behind the reflector as you can reach up behind the bumper instead. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

I ran a Witter detachable for nearly 3years towing a caravan, quiet as a mouse with no play. Dealer put another Witter on my new one as part of the deal, i chose Witter again because of this. |
