The door mirror heaters are activated by the HRW switch.
This is normal for many VM's.

Only the HFJ's are automatic thermostatically controlled with ign on. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I imagine the operation might differ across different model years.

Auto heated washer jets being dependent on the external temp makes sense as you can see why they would need to be permamently heated, but you wouldn't really need the wing mirrors to be like this. Maybe on later models if its below a temp threshold they come on automatically and then switch off after a fixed amount of time each time you start the car?

Is the handbook right about the link between the wupers and heated mirrors? Surely on a frosty day with an iced over windscreen the last thing you want is your wipers scraping over the ice and destroying the rubber? I have always assumed that the heated wing mirrors work in conjunction with the heated rear window.

Speaking of the devil.....I noticed today the mirror of the driver side could not fully folded and vice versa. I need to 'help' it to reaches its limits.... wondering if I could go back to the dealer and have a fix on that.  Freelander 2 XS MY 2012, 19" rims, Barolo Black. Privacy glass, spoiler.

Yes, you are under warranty so basically everything is covered.
You can try pushing it open yourself towards the bonnet a few times, this lubricates and may reset the proper closing position.

I seem to recall there is a way to disable the mirrors from folding when locked so that when frost and/or snow is forecast, that feature can be disabled. I can't RTFM however, as I no longer have an FL2  LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
