Mine started squeeking , but it only seems to be when I am selecting 1st , 3rd and 5th gear, it does not happen when selecting any other gear, have reported the problem and I hope it will be sorted when my FRL2 is in for its first service. WE will see.

Yip, thats when mine squeeks!

I took mine onto a "LandRover Service Centre", who said they would fix it....they then phoned me up to say they could SERVICE my FL2, but were not authorised to do any WARRANTY work.... Evil or Very Mad So they wasted my time!.....alls they did was lub-up the shifter (Which didnt solve the issue) '57 FL2 GS

Bizzarre Exclamation

Mine too has started squeaking in the last week. It only squeaks when moving horizontally between 1&2 and 3&4!

Good to know there's a technical bulletin on it - Its now booked in for it's first service at the end of the month - something else to add to the list! Confused

Is it worth taking in

I have the same problem of the welly noises. Mileage at 12500. Can it wait about 6/8 weeks until the service. I'm also waiting for the sunroof recall to be done at the same time.

Back from Hunter's (cleaned & polished) & fixed! No detectable squeak, and the shift is better than it has ever been. They followed the workshop bulletin (i.e. it's a known problem, with a fix), replaced the component in the gearbox linkage, and oiled and greased as required.

I took it for a drive & I'm a much happier bunny.

Shame all my trip counters got reset. I use these to monitor mileage, consumption etc. (OK I'm a GEEK). I assume that they updated the software, or does the interrogation upset them? Does anyone know how to determine the current software release level? That would be interesting!

Hi Columbarius - my 07 HSE goes into dealers this week for various matters including stiff gear shift (already had the 'squeak' dealt with previously).
Can you confirm that a workshop bulletin or TSB exists specifically regarding the replacement of part of the gearbox linkage please. I don't anticipate being fobbed off but would like to be in a position of 'strength' if I suspect dealers of trying it on.

Does anyone know what the TSB number is for the squeky gearbox? Mine started doing it a few months ago and have not got around to booking it in.
Would like to be armed with the number in case there are any problems or if they deny all knowledge Laughing

Thanks

My cars gear change has been a bit squeaky and odd lately so I lifted the cover and saw the clear plastic pipes shown in this old pic where worn away and flapping loose, I removed them and now gear changes are smooth again. They will need replacing I guess.

pic shows the lower half of the gear stick just under the gaitor. the pipes are pushed onto the 'clothes peg type' spring, the purpose of which is to spring load the gear stick to the central 3rd 4th position At work

I had the same problem before 7-8 months (squeeky gearbox when shifting 1st, 3rd and 5fth gear), i took the car to the dealer and they greased the gearbox. Ever since there is no problem and gears shift smoothly Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

Try greasing the under bonnet end of the cables, on top of the gearbox (under the air box) put the lever in 2nd 4th and 6th gears to extend the cables, dab some grease on the rods (2 of), simples no squeaks.

I used lithium bike grease.

2 minute job, probably good idea even if you don't have a squeak, prevention is better than cure At work
