DAB intermittently working 2007 HSE

The DAB radio on my 2007 HSE has been working fine until the last couple of weeks when it will intermittently loose all reception or disappear from the band selection list i.e. the FM button will only cycle between FM1 and FM2 instead of the normal FM1, FM2, DAB1 and DAB2.

The DAB often seems to disappear when another electrical item is turned on e.g. the heated seats or if the parking sensors are used. I have had the Battery checked and that was OK although I have now fitted a new battery just in case. I have done a system reset as part of the battery change.

When the DAB is there it will work fine for a day or so and then disappear again. Has anyone else had a similar problem or any suggestions as to what to try next?

It's as likely to be a DAB reception problem as a car fault.

I don't think its a reception problem. its as if the DAB unit is not there i.e. the band selector only cycles FM1 & FM2 instead of FM1 FM2 DAB1 & DAB2.

I'm going to check all of the connections when I get chance as I've seen somewhere that a plug for the radio under the passenger foot well can cause the radio to stop working, there may be a similar plug there for the DAB unit????

Are you sure you have DAB in your car? I didn't think that came in until later models?

Yes definitely got DAB, it was one of the first to have it. When I got the car it was one of only 2 of that spec \ colour in the country and dealer had to do swaps with other dealers to get one of them as it was due to go to another dealer and then it got damaged on the trailer so had to do more swaps to get the other one.

The car has been fine until now and we nearly always listen to DAB so it's annoying when it's not working. Hopefully I will have time to check the connections at the weekend.

I have had my MY13 HSE about 6 weeks now but find the DAB unusable. when it works the sound quality is way better than FM but it drops out every 30 seconds or so. Is this normal i.e poor reception in some areas, or is it likely to be a fault? Sorry if it sounds a dumb question but not had DAB before.

It's not unusual to lose DAB signal in the more sparsely populated parts of the country but coverage in and around most cities should be reasonable. I prefer DAB over FM in the car and I've only noticed loss of reception in parts of Wales, Scotland and Cornwall. You might just be based in a poor signal area, if it's regularly dropping out when you're in a larger town then it may be an antenna issue that's worth getting checked out.

Coverage isn't nearly as comprehensive as FM - one of the reasons they can't switch FM off yet. 2012 SD4 XS Santorini Black
