Haldex or Diff

Please can anyone help. Getting noise out of a rear axle area when turning hard left or hard right out of T junctions. I have been informed that it could be the Haldex? unit or rear diff. Any idea? Many Thanks. lee

Can you describe what you're experiencing in a bit more detail, please.

If it's the Haldex you'll be getting wind-up in the transmission, which releases via the tyres. So you might get a juddering type noise as the tyres slip, and might feel as well as hear it.

If it's the diff it's more likely to be a whine/droning noise from a bearing - heard but not felt.

Diff bearing is a known weak point, so if you're lucky that's what it'll be (diff being cheaper to fix than Haldex!).

Based on the experiences of others here be wary of independents - a few Haldex units seem to have failed suspiciously soon after a diff repair at an indy...

I don't know of a definitive user test, beyond the fact that transmission wind-up on an FL2 is almost certainly going to be Haldex related.

I suppose you could try a few tight turns with the Terrain Response in normal mode, then in Mud and Ruts or GGS. M&R and GGS will (attempt to) lock up the Haldex, so if the different modes make little difference to the noise it's probably Haldex. Note I haven't tried this, so I don't actually know if it works!
