Slaneydore, if it was me I'd stick to LR/OEM parts as I've had problems with pattern parts bedding in properly in the past. Mav's biography covers the brakes well. I'd also look at the shoes for the rear handbrake when you are doing the job as well. Making sure all the mechanicals are clean and free from rust/crud. The rear hand brake can get a bit seized up (there's a little lever thing that needs to be free moving) and whilst your doing the other job... you'll find it easier to get the rear discs off by slackening the adjustment on the handbrake anyway.

Hope that helps.

Andrew

PS I meant to add that there is a guy on a popular auction site who sells genuine LR parts - he is in Bedford not far from you. He has complete sets of LR discs, pads and shoes. A lot less than from a dealer. Worth searching out. Send me a PM if you want more info. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

I had my MOT on Saturday and an amber for my brakes front and rear. I asked Lookers LR to quote me and i have received the following:

Front Discs - £231.26
Front Pads - £210.80
Rear Discs - £219.00
Rear Pads - £155.00

All inclue VAT and Fitting but at £815 it seems a joke.

I spoke to the local garage and he will do it for £395 with genuine parts, can really moan at that.

Tiggles LR garage must get the pads and discs from the same place as the EBay seller. I priced up a full set of LR discs and pads for £280. How a main dealer can quite 800 I'll never know, do they not want any buisness? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

No worries Thumbs Up
Genuine L/R parts are expensive and 250 quid seems almost too good Thumbs Up
I think the brakes are the same as used on Ford.
Might try to find the O/E supplier part numbers.
Unless anyone on here already knows? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

With regards to Automotive DIY, I now have over 40 years rebuilding late model cars and servicing all sorts of makers. I use a local independent car parts supplier in Belper run by Father and Son who are very very knowledgable, they have been running their business for at least 25 years so whilst buying other parts I have asked their advice on Freelander brake parts.
.
Freelander 2 Diesel 2.2:-
Front pads by APEC £34.50 set
Front discs by Pagid £32.80 each
Rear pads by APEC £24.50 each
Rear discs by APEC £38.70 each
.
The Freelander brakes are originally Ford, Ford will buy parts from their suppliers typically TRW is one; TRW I believe source their stock and from experience I know that there are at least two brand names that appear inside packaging. So even if you buy LR brake bits in LR boxes you really will never know in which country they were made of by which operator, however with LR parts bought at the main Dealer you are assured of pedigree and guarantee.
.
Because of the minefield of suppliers and stockists I think that I would want to buy from an established retailer so as to avoid clone parts that may come from say Far East unknown sources.
.
As a general rule of thumb you would only need new discs after say the second set of pads.
.
Hope this helps. Kind regards from Fred 2010GS Auto ex Celeb, Santorini Black, 2011 facelift , spoiler, spats, mudflaps, LED footwell lamps, Witter detach,
