I had to post some pics of Red! (I had to take photo's of the old photo's in the album to get them onto my computer as I don't have a scanner).

Despite owning Springer Spaniels now, the Rhodesian Ridgeback will always be the King of Kings in the dog world for me. I was at infant school when we had him and he died in 2002 when I was 18 so I grew up with him and it was heartbreaking when he passed away.

I will never forget what the breeder told us. They are loyal dogs and will only ever be aggressive in self defence of you and themselves and at that, not in a nasty way, just in a don't mess with me way. Brilliant with children and great escape artists.

She said that if we ever encountered a gang of thugs who unleashed their staffy or even a larger aggressive dog for whatever reason (this happened to them), just take him off the lead. The other dog won't know which way he went. He could leap clear over their heads from a standstill and dodge their every move. He could then (as they did in Africa with Lions), drag it down by it's back end. Heat, snow, Lions, no problem.

I felt it was too soon after Red (2004) to have another Ridgeback but one day I will go there again and I already know what I will call him: Strider Thumbs Up

Haha - yes, we're quite prepared for the arrival, psychologically at least.

We had illy as a pup so Spaniel characteristics are quite well understood by now.

Illy is a gundog in training, as the new one will be too.

[quote="toeknee"]Hi Bill not sure about the Black Labs, don't think Sprocket will mind though

Hi Toeknee, it just shows that you should take care when reading posts and threads.
I got the idea that you had a black lab when I went on to your Flickr site to see if you had posted anymore pictures of The Croft Stages Rally and jumped ()Wrongly as it turns out) that cnss's pictures of black labs were yours.

I did not realise what I was starting with this topic, as by my count we have at the time of posting this pictures of 45 members dogs all of whom must have good taste as they have chosen owners with FL2's.

Cheers,

It's a good idea for a topic and it's great to see such a handsome group of dogs. I do have a particular soft spot for the gundogs and sighthounds however, and I'd love to give my lil lurcher a run with that super windhound, that would be quite a sight.

Just before Xmas I got a second freelander that I've kitted out specifically for the dog/outdoors - boot liner, Dog guard, thick rubber mats etc. Mrs gets fed up with used cartridges in the footwell and mud in the headlining of "her" car - I can't imagine why... So far so good but the wisdom of buying a high mileage 07 will no doubt be tested eventually. Dog is enjoying it and one less reason for a domestic has to be a good thing
