The New Man Cave

So having decided to move to France, I promised myself a place with a better man cave than I had before. I have now nearly finished kitting it out and thought I would share some pictures as we haven't had a "Man Cave" post for a while now.

Here is the outside of the cave in a corner of our garden. To put it into context it is plenty big enough to park six cars in and still open all the doors wide! Ah the joy of space Smile

Here we are inside the doors. "Management's" Peugeot 307cc is on the left and the FL2 away in the right corner.

I didn't get it all my own way and had to concede one corner to management who is a keen gardener, so this is her potting bench.

Bench space and shelving was a priority so I built this.

Although the red steel engineering bench came with me from the UK. A decent bar stool is always a priority in any sane workshop!

Compressor and tool box corner. The gas heater in the foreground chucks out a surprising amount of heat!

My Series One has it's own corner of the workshop and keeps me amused for hours.

The icing on the cake was getting a hydraulic lift - makes life much easier for an old git like me!

Makes stuff like oil changes a breeze.

Especially as I treated myself to one of these oil drainers. (The bearing press is also a workshop must)

It is a sign of the times I suppose but the most used tools in the Man Cave nowadays are my trusty Sealy impact wrench and my Autel Maxidas diagnostic gear.

My other new favourite tool kept in the Man Cave? This:-

With this I have proved that men can multitask and that drinking and driving is possible - I cruise round our half acre lawn on hot summer days cutting the grass and drinking a nice cold tinny!

Excellent work Thumbs Up

Do you also have a swimming pool that slides back to allow Thunderbird 1 to launch? Plus palm trees that lean back to allow Thunderbird 2 to emerge and launch?

We have a swimming pool but sadly no palm trees or Thunderbirds Smile

Yes I have French plates, but for no road tax and MOT every 2 years I will put up with it! John

No not yet. I have to register it with the French historic vehicle association before I can. However, I am not in a rush to do that because I have kept it registered at my daughter's UK address and as it does not require an MOT I can still get a current tax disc (free of course) and my insurers are happy with overseas use. A bit naughty I know..... John

Hi JST

Great man cave I want one, the only thing I have in common are the 2 of the 3 vehicles in it... hers and mine.

Scary...even the colours are the same! I don't necessarily see the 307cc as a "woman's" car but an awful lot of them are owned by women. John

Ooh la la! as they say locally!

What do the French call a man cave? A "Cave" is something completely different although I suppose you could keep some wine in there too as there's plenty of room and a lock on the door! Smile Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Hi John

Yes true I've not seen many guys driving them round here either. How's your series 1 coming along my mates a spray painter with his own spray shop and I helped him a few years back completely rebuild his when I was living local to him I will dig out a couple of photos if your interested it's all finished now and it's living in Anglesey Wales, he is rebuilding an old E type jaguar at the moment. He also rebuilt an old ferguson tractor looks like the day it was rolled out the factory and same goes for the series 1 as well. Both are mint condition.

Regards

Dave

The Series One is fine Dave, but not concours. I drive it round the lanes and there are hundreds of them here in rural SW France. I am always up to see series One photos! Smile John
