I just swapped over a full set of tyres to Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV. I was getting about 32mpg on the
Toyo Open Country W/T. Now I'm struggling to get 28mpg! Never had such low figures no matter how I've driven. I've only done about 30 miles so hoping this will improve. I was hoping that switching would given better economy though. Any thoughts?

Most users switching to a more aggressive tyre will notice a drop in MPG. Andy.

You'd think something with efficientgrip in the title would offer better mpg than a winter tyre...not 5 mpg less! You live and learn I guess. It certainly drives a lot nicer now, comfier and quieter. Seems I want my cake and eat it lol

The Efficientgrip doesn't have an aggressive tread though. In fact Goodyear market it thus:

I did expect a drop when I went from the contis to the toyos...they were a wee bit worse. Maybe things will improve-need to check the pressures as well.

purchased 4 efficient grips almost a year ago now no drop in mpg from the wranglers that were on. albeit its dropped from 36ish to 26 ish in the last week or so, im wondering if theres a problem elsewhere ??? any ideas what it could be???

It turned out it was problem with a sticking handbrake shoe-which just so happened to coincide with the new tyres going on. Things have really gone back to normal now and I like the comfort/noise level over the other tyres. Although there doesn't seem to be any economy advantage yet-maybe in the summer months it'll improve. If I start seeing 35mpg+ I'll know. Quite happy with things now though.

I just put a pair ofd efficient grip tyres on our Golf. On a scale of A to G, they were marked A for wet grip and B for economy. Dont know if 4X4 tyres are rated differently. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
