Also does anyone know weather these readers can erase the reduced engine performance fault code and take the car out of limp mode?

I had a split intercooler pipe Its fixed now but car still has reduced engine performance error code on dash.......Its going to cost me £40 to have it reset so I thought why not get one so that I can do it myself for less? Freelander 2 HST Stornoway Grey

I bought a D900 on Ebay for a similar price, I know you can reset fault codes on it but don't know about resetting reduced engine performance. Sorry. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

There are generic fault code readers and dedicated fault code readers.
Both categories can read and erase powertrain (engine and transmission) errors (dtcs). In other words, emission related dtcs.
Dedicated ones, instead, will access all modules in the car, including powertrain modules.

Now, you are interested in engine ECU errors. These will be read/erased by both categories of fault code readers.
Just make sure the device is able to access cars with CAN bus network architecture - the case of FL2.
In other words it should comply with ISO15765.

And no, disconnecting the battery will not work for this kind of errors.

I have a basic ELM327 USB cable (that can do can bus) and have used that on a couple of occasions to read and reset engine management light errors on the FL2.

I've found that sometimes the errors are non-industry standard, so I have to take a note of the code and look it up on the internet to get a clue about what its saying ( often peugout codes are similar and have internet posts about the codes cause of the engine ).

But they do reset the light, and have taken the car back out from its reduced performance state.

That is not an ELM327, but an ELM329. ELM329 knows about CAN.
As for the error codes, don't look to far on the internet...

Re: Freelander 2 fault code reader/eraser

GINNO78,
I can tell you that a plug & play Autel Maxiscan ms509 won't work on a 58 FL2. Tried it when my low performance light came on last year, due to a clogged fuel filter. Didn't pick up any codes, even though they were some logged. Said it used CAN protocol too. Used Land Rover Assist at the time with his laptop.
Now have a 2013 d900. Have used it successfully on 5 other makes of vehicles. Do not yet know for sure whether it would work on my FL2, hope so. It does state it does support land rover though. At the moment I have no fault codes stored. Think the d950 is out now.
Bit of a mine field when it comes to cheap code readers for the FL2. Landy has now gone.

Well guys I can confirm this works great on the freelander 2, it read codes reported codes it even said what the fault was , Turbo overboost, which was due to split IC pipe.......It also removed codes and took the car out of limp mode (Reduced Engine Performance)
Very impressive...hope this helps others Freelander 2 HST Stornoway Grey

On all Freelander 2 versions (2007 - 2014) the engine and automatic gearbox CAN ID had remained the same.
7E0 - Engine and 7E1 - Gearbox, which also complies with de facto industry standard.
So yes, it'll work.
