HELPPPPPPP, advise please, most of you know a lot more about this than I do. 2007 Freelander 2 , manual 2.2 diesel. Oil Leak has suddenly appeared , front right hand side. I think there is an oil cooler behind the grill? Car has never been off road or banged. Engine bay is clean. It all seems to be somewhere below the radiator. My last oil leak, 3 years ago, cost me nearly €2k to have a rear drive shaft seal replaced.

Any ideas?

Could it be the intercooler?

It is similar to a radiator, mounted low down at the front. The turbo compresses air and heats it up, the intercooler cools it back down again. The air from the turbo contains a tiny amount of oil, as this air is cooled the oil condeses out and settles in the intercooler and its hoses. Any small leak of hot compressed air is unlikely to be noticed, but it will produce a drizzle of oil as the hoses/intercooler drain.

Mine has been cleaned out a couple of times, you wouldn't believe the amount of oil that came out.

If it is and you are lucky that it is only a loose jubilee type clip, you will be looking at couple of hours labour. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I had a leak on mine and it turned out to be the jubilee clip on the intercooler hose. I tightened the clip and that cured it. Took just half an hour. BTW mine was fine until I did my own oil and filter change. I had removed the hose to get better access to the filter and although it was tight, the screw part of the jubilee clip was at the lowest point presumably leaving a tiny gap and should have been at the highest point. Repositioning the clip before tightening cured it. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I had the same leak on the nearside front, jubilee strap on the intercooler, had the front bumper off 3 times and still could not stop the leak. In the end i changed the hoses with new straps and it stopped.

Is it difficult to remove the bumper? Any problems to what out for?

Do I have to remove the bumper to gain access to where the pipes are? 2002 Honda VFR800

its quite easy, you need to remove the panels in the front wheel arches, bottom tray, headlights, disconnect the headlight washers. sounds a lot but i can get mine off in about 20 - 30 minutes, make sure you have a small socket set with a long bar to get at the bolt in the wheel arch and another person to help pull the bumper off, they fall front down and can get damaged.

you could try to do it with the bumper on it depends if you have arms like a 4 year old and value your skin

Thanks for the info... I think I'll go for the bumper removal as I'd like to get a good look at what I need to sort out.

Was there already a jubilee clip on the pipe or is it a silly spring clip that I'll need to replace with a jubilee clip.

I see there are a load of youtube videos on bumper removal so I'll watch them to see the full job.

yes i does have a clip already on, its the type with a claw that goes inside the pipe. thats what caused the issue it had split the hose on the band and i had to renew it.

it is easy to remove, just remember the washers for the headlights remove the tube (offside) and connect back to the pump, this stops the loss of washer fluid and also the fog lamp and parking sensor electrics plug on the nearside.

i put the whole this back together once and forgot the electrics!

Bumper removal, i did it in less than 30 mins last time.
