Screenwash and Legionnaires disease

While on twitter I read the following tweet from Halfords

"Windscreen wiper water to blame for 20% of all Legionnaires cases in England – make sure you use proper screenwash (not just water)"

Don't know if its true or not, never really give it much thought before, maybe something to watch out for? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
Gone MY2010 Freelander 2 Manual TD4.e S, Alaska White.

Yes 2010! Whistle

Then it all died a death as the experiments concluded that the use of screenwash will prevent legionella bacteria from colonising the washer system. The use of plain water in anything will potentially give rise to legionella forming.
You have a far greater risk opening your mouth in the shower at home.

Sensationalist media nonsense, yes use screenwash, to keep the screen clean.

There's nothing worse when working on a car and testing the washers while standing outside the car and getting a face full of rank, stinking, Censored washer water. Urgh. Sad

My Mum is one of the worse offenders - she hardly uses her washers between MOT tests and that dribbles out of the jets like stinking wallpaper paste!! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

All dental units must have a 'type A' airgap or a clean water system, to prevent cross infection into the mains water, this picture was taken last week in a dental surgery that wasn't using anything to clean the water lines, this is a common problem, the tank you see should be clear plastic, the black stuff you see growing can be found in probably every home too, it often grows on the ballcock in water tanks Shocked

water pipes in poultry sheds suffer similar problems, the water in them is warm due to the bird heat and all those dirty bealks drinking from the steel nipples.
tried all sorts of products settled on chlorine dioxide, made on site mixing a special solution with hydrochloric acid. done with a dosing pump at 1.5 parts per million, works a treat, product is cheap too , sadly the peristaltic dosing pumps needs loads of maintenance.
I send regualr water samples away for bacteria testing and they always come out clean

if your seriously worried about any water tank drop a few of these in
