Anyone fitted these?

With the weather closing in (Esp. up North) I'm contemplating a set of Winter tyres and the Kuhmo KC15's caught my eye due to their PRICE / Review combo?

I personally think that winters tyres on an FL2 are pointless. In 6 1/2 years of using this car in both winter and summer, I never found any problems in the winter on normal all weather tyres.

Not in deep snow, ice or anything.

Sounds like sound advice - I'm not looking to drive to the limit in ice/snow conditions - I just don't want to get stuck on normal roads / potential trip to French Alps.

I have brand new (700miles old) Continental Contact M+S All Weather tyres fitted which I think were the standard OEM tyre for the MY07.

I'm sure they'll be fine? Just wanted to check the Forum for expert advice!

still wise to fit winters, on braking a 4x4 is the same as any car, only heavier . Winters will significantly shorten stopping distance and improve control.

That said I run standard tyres all year with few problems, In my part of Yorkshire road conditions arnt too bad with few hills. The road at end of lane is a school bus route so normally gets gritted well.
If I lived a bit more rural winters would be more likely. At work

I thought the same till I tried Winter Tyres, wouldn't be so keen in the snow without them now, especially as the last Freelander I had was fitted with Continentals, they were dire in the snow, glad I had a set of Winters to swap. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Are winter tyres more pointless than side steps or drilled brakes?

No sidesteps or drilled discs on my fl2, just a nice set of Wintrac's.

I think you need to try Winter tyres to see and feel the difference. Thumbs Up

Never had anyone say "waste of money" Wink

I would rather drive on Winter tyres in the Summer than Summer tyres in the Winter. Thumbs Up Andy.

There are two main differences between winter and normal tyres. Winter tyres have a different tread pattern of wider grooves and narrow slits at the edges of the tread area, which combine to give better grip on snow and ice. The second difference is the material the tyre is made of.
The rubber used for the tread section on standard tyres gets stiffer as the temperature drops, and grip starts to reduce below seven degrees Celsius. Winter tyres use a different material which stays soft and grippy to well below zero. Tyres made with this rubber will carry either a snowflake or a mountain as a symbol on the sidewall Wink BETTER looking half of the famous Twinlanders

Not the tyre you're looking at but this one didn't turn out too well

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/tyre-guides/45317/kumho-solus-vier

If you're spending c£100 per corner on an unknown tyre I'd spend £120 a corner on a well known brand to be honest.

The winter set will last could last you years if your mileage is like mine summer biased

I'd look at Nokian, Vreddies Conti etc

The new tyre coding system is interesting, many 'winter' tyres have a very bad wet weather rating, an important factor as our roads in winter are more wet than snow covered.
Looking at the Nokian WR SUV 3, seem to be a good tyre and ticks the boxes, said previously I wouldn't bother bit with more people going for them, then the better stopping power will be welcome.
Had a nasty surprise on black ice this morning, maybe wouldn't have been as bad with winter compound tyres?

Be careful though with the grading system. The tests on winter tyres are likely done in summer conditions so they are not shown to their best
