People stealing Land Rover mirrors

Does anyone know why people might be stealing the mirrors from Land Rover vehicles? Is there something particularly valuable about them? My wife's just left for work in her Freelie and the side mirrors have been removed and stolen (not the whole wing mirrors, just the mirrored part apparently). The only other vehicle on the street that has had the same thing happen to it is a Land Rover Discovery.

It is easily done to most mirrors now, the glass is just clipped in, all they do is move the mirror to enable them to get their fingers behind the glass and pop out the glass.
I lost one at work about a year ago, stopped for ten minutes at Hilton Park around lunchtime, came back, near side glass gone, wires neatly unplugged, had to drive back 80 miles, the rain was Censored down and with no near side mirror, Evil or Very Mad off the road for 24 hours whilst getting a new glass as it was not an off the shelf item and £70 lighter Evil or Very Mad p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Just been out to look around for myself and the other Land Rover in the area, a Range Rover Evoque has also had the same treatment done to it. Looks like a theft-to-order job where Land Rovers have been targeted. This is in the Blackheath area of London. Censored

Such a waste of time. The mirrors will probably make the thieves about £10 a set but we've just had to pay £125 to have them replaced by Land Rover as the thieves damaged one of the motors when ripping them out. Luckily LR felt sorry for us and didn't charge us for any labour. I just don't understand how people can be so selfish. It's such a small profit for them yet a huge expense for the victims and a real danger to safety as driving without mirrors is a death wish.

Reminds me when people use to pinch VW badges in the 1980's.

Can't understand the reasoning behind mirrors bring pinched, probably the same way that generation couldn't understand shy their VW badge had gone.

People used to get them engraved in the old days, along with the windows. Haven't seen that done for a long time now...

I remember one particular case. A cherished old LR stolen, and all the windows removed, because they were etched. It was found (sold down the pub to farmer) because the owner had even had the headlight lenses etched.

2 weeks ago my neighbour had the whole front of her corsa taken whilst it was on her drive. Her husband went to work at 05:30 and the car was complete and she went out at 08:00 and the front was gone.
