how loud is your turbo whistle

I've only just noticed as I usually have the windows closed and radio on (and since noise suppression is very good on LR2) but today had the window down and driving past a wall, the 'whistle' from the turbo on spooling up is very loud. Much louder than I expected, especially to drown out the diesel rattle. Is this the same for others? There's no problem with pick-up performance, as she flies from 1750 rpm up. Phil

I paid more attention on the drive home and its quite pleasant really Smile Also, I noticed there seems to be a lift-off exhaust gas release 'whoosh'. Does anyone know if the engine has a recirculating or straight to air exhaust gas release valve? (sometimes known as blow-off valves, dump-valves, blah blah modders speak...) Phil

Perhaps you could both record it as an MP3, then we could all listen to it and comment. Loud is soooo objective? Shocked Indus Silver

I think you'd also need to overdub the sound of someone nailing a garden shed together, just to give it some rhythm - then it would win. Wink
As for the whistle, I haven't noticed an obtrusive noise, just a sense that there is a turbo spinning. But then again, I don't often cane it with the windows down in this weather.

That would be me, a HGV ran over my garden shed a week ago and completely totalled it . Luckily for some I wasn't in there at the time. At work
