Has This Ever Happened To you?.........

Hi,

Ok this happened with our 'other car', not the freely (not that it matters).

Pulled into our Tesco petrol station the other day as I was really low on fuel, computer showing a range of just 29 miles.

Was in a bit of a hurry and as the car is now only used for short runs, pulled up to the 'pay at pump' and stuck just £20 worth. got back into car and range still showed....29 miles! Ok so went into kiosk to report the problem, was met by total disbelief and told I must have had the fuel and the car must be 'wrong'!

Obviously stood my ground on this one and insisted the pump was at fault, no chance they claimed. After another 10 mins of arguments, they reluctantly took a fuel can and extracted £1 of fuel, to 'prove' the pump was working.

I still insisted the error, they would not listen at all.....and then...........

Another customer came in to complain that he was trying to fill his Land Cruiser tank full but got worried when the pump reached £99 and cut out! On checking his gauge was still near empty.

Well all arguments stopped immediately, I was refunded the £20, and as desperate for fuel, pulled to another pump and filled without issues. BUT.....Suggested they might want to put the first pump out of commission until checked, the said they would, but as I left another customer was there trying use it........until I stopped him.

After a quick shop, I noted on the way out, that pump was still available to use... Not good customer service Tesco! Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

I would like to say I have never had this problem, but I can't be sure Whistle I fill up I pay and I drive off, maybe it has been happening to a few people but never check what the gauge is showing when they drive off...

Did you report it to trading standards I think they would of been interested

I had a similar thing happened years ago, back when there was a sight glass on the side of the pump, stopped at the Shell Garage on the A604 A11 roundabout as it was then, put in ten gallons, gut could see in the tank and it was not anywhere near full, looked at nozzle and nothing other than mist was coming out, the tank only held 16 Gallons, so deliberately kept it going to 30 gallons before I stopped the pump. They wanted me to pay for 30 gallons when I said that it was only a 16 gallon tank and was half full when I went in, they then checked the pump and found it was empty but put it down to the vapour of the diesel was enough to turn the gauge Confused p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

The £99 cut off is a limit they put on when you chose the Pay At Pump option.

You didn't say if the fuel gauge had moved? My initial thought was that the Range wouldn't update until the vehicle had been moving and done a recalculation, but I don't use the Range setting so don't know how it acts, I guess this is something you have done before and the Range is updated immediately?

Hi.

Yup the Jag computer updates immediately, indeed on the second filling it read a range of 240 miles!

Also I did not mention the fuel gauge did not move off the red, and again it rereads immediately ( I know some don't) Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

A while ago I filled up and my wife went in to buy some stuff from the shop and pay for the fuel - it was nearly 90 quids worth of fuel. As we were leaving the wife said "That was cheap". "What do you mean? " I said."£53" she said. I told her she'd made a mistake and we'd better go back as they would only get us on the CCTV. We went back and there was another lady arguing that she had only put £53 of diesel in her car and she wasn't paying the 90 quid or whatever it was that we had put in. Turned out that the person on the till had pointed to a silver Evoque (we have a black FL2) and the wife had said "Yep, that one". We only had our debit card on us so the wife had to get some cash out and pay the difference between her fuel bill and ours - a right kerfuffle. Embarassed So, not only had she got the model wrong, she'd got the fugging colour wrong too! What amazed me was her answer to that - "Well, it's a Landrover something or other isn't it?" Never heard or pumps playing up like this but good spot and well done for sticking to your guns.

I hate filling up at Tescos..worst customer service than Ryanair. Seem to enjoy having as few staff as possible behind the tills whilst all the others are faffing around....checking stock, reading the paper, being on the phone..moving cones on the forecourt. I'd rather pay more and use Shell than use Tesco...it always delays me unnecessarily.

Hi.

Fair point Richardk, But out here in the wilds of Lincs its basically a choice of Tesco's or Asda's or some unknown 'Greenleaf' filling station! Shell. Esso. or BP are not to be had!

However we have never had a problem with the quality of Tesco's fuel,,,,,cant be said the same about Morrisons, but that would be a whole new thread Wink Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

I traded in an Audi A4 for my FL2. While waiting the week or so to pick up the FL2 my tank was empty, I was due to pick up the FL2 any day but it was delayed as a tyre needed a repair (no locking wheel nut) and a wheel bearing needed replacing. Any hows I was putting a fivers worth of diesel in at a time and my fuel gauge wasn't moving at all. Discovered that I had to remove and re-insert a fuse to reset the fuel gauge. When that was done the fuel gauge and range moved up a little.

On another note I remember waiting in a que at a garage to pay and the lady paying insisted she had only put a fiver in her tank. Attendant was adamant she had put 50 in the tank. After 5 minutes of arguing the fella reluctantly took a fiver of the lady. The pump she used was next to mine so when I went back to my car I had a quick look at her pump, she had infact put 50 quid of diesel in her car but only paid for 5! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Once met a friendly Romanian chap on the Romania-Bulgaria border who was going out of his way to revisit a filling station he reckoned had "sold" him twice as much fuel as his tank would hold. Best to beware out there in the wilds of Europe. Last time I was staying in Romania I had to fill up at the local fire station - don't know who eventually got the cash!
(Sorry Alex - nothing against Romanians and I'm sure things are improving rapidly!)
