2013 HDD Sat Nav

I'll be picking up my new MY13 Freelander any day now and was wondering if any of you MY13 owners with HDD Sat Nav could tell me if it's possible to tell if the maps are up to date from the unit itself? I don't recall anything on my old model other than the dates printed on the box. Confused

The MY13 sat nav maps are the most up to date available from LR although they may be a bit out of date in some areas. It seems to take at least two years for a new road etc to appear on any sat nav maps.

If you've had a previous LR with sat nav you'll be amazed at how good the MY13 is. I was on the point of buying a Garmin to put in my MY13 HSE as the sat nav was so poor.

The telephone part also!

And the EPB!

I could go on.

Thanks tyke65. Thumbs Up
Although the car is new, it's been sat in a showroom since the July build. I'm aware that maps for the standard DVD driven system are usually updated in Sept/Oct and thought there would be an update for the HDD Sat Nav system at the same time.
Looking forward to it now, had enough of looking at the old style dash. Can't complain though, as barring a few problems the car's never failed to start or get me from A to B.

If it's a MY13 then you'll have the latest maps available. I haven't heard of any upgrades to the MY13 and I understand that the updates are on a 2 year cycle. Also, the changes are usually few and far between making it a moot point as to whether a map upgrade will be cost effective - and they will likely cost an arm and a leg rom LR.

Having said that, as you are buying a new car (irrespective of when it was built) you might have grounds for asking either for the latest maps (if an upgrade is available) or a free update when it does become available. Nothing ventured etc!

I suppose it's another good reason for a tomtom @£200 where the maps are updated 4 times a year not once every two years.
