from a D3 to a FL2

Well I have been a d3 owner for 2 years now after 2 d2s and have loved it but I have a problem
swmbo has gone and got a new job and instead of a commute of 6 miles each way to about 65 each way and as I have a commute of 40 miles each way I am thinking the fuel bill will be too much until we can get moved house somewhere between the 2 jobs about 35 mile apart
and the train of thought at the moment is a freelander swmbo will take the astra and I will be doing the shorter run in the freelander

who else has made the move what did you miss and what did you like

the other thing I am struggling to find is what you get with different specs
over on disco3 there is the wiki with loads of info I cant find it here is there a topic that will show me the right direction

so far I have deduced
s spec no terrain response no steering wheel controls cloth trim
gs gets T/R
xs gets part leather
se gets sat nav
hse full leather and sunroof

there will be many other differences as well

Also what are they like with millage the general thought on d3 is millage doesnt matter as much as history and a slightly higher milage with all the common faults sorted can be a bettet buy than 1 coming up to a load of bills

lot of questions I suppose but thanks in advance

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

A lot will depend on which MY you are looking at:

Current S models have Terrain Response, I think it became standard from MY11 but may be wrong.
XS got full leather from MY13 and Sat Nav from MY11
SE was dropped for MY11
HSE has most things and HSE Lux has everything (well almost)

S used to have 16 inch wheels but now has 17
GS, XS and SE have/had 17 inch
HSE/HSE Lux have 18 or 19 as standard.

In terms of MPG,

160bhp manual diesel average around 33 - 26 (160bhp dropped after MY11)
150bhp manual diesel average around 35-40 (available MY11 onwards)
150bhp auto diesel average around 33 - 38 (available MY11 onwards)
190bhp auto diesle average around 35 -40 (available MY11 onwards)

Official combined figures are better but above are probably reasonable accurate based on real world use.

A search on here should provide links to previous spec sheets.

Hi pinhead, I have just made the swap to a FL2 from a disco3. I bought a ex demo dynamic so it was pretty well spec'd. It feels more nimble than the d3 and the steering is very light..... nearly puy it in a hedge first day Embarassed i do notice the lack of space from the d3, you don't feel like your lording about anymore. The fl2 drives better around town but on the motorway you can't beat the big disco. So far i'm not displeased with it but they are very different.

I changed from a D2 to a FR2 and am now on my second. Much more car-like although, in my book, seats slightly less comfortable on a long journey (I'm talking 400+ miles in a day). I very much prefer it overall and luckily I can live with its being smaller. The specs do differ quite a bit from MY to MY. As a rule they seem to be careful to restrict some of the most desirable things (satnav, good radio, parking sensors) to the top-end models. That said the satnav on my new HSE isn't a patch on the TomTom I retrofitted to my last car.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Baltic Blue

I changed from a D3 to an FL2 MY10HSE TD4a couple of years ago and then to an FL2 MY13XS SD4 this year.

As has been said, the model specs depend on the year so you have to decide what you need. I miss the memory seats and mirrors but nothing else. The boot is quite a bit smaller than the D3.

It's more of a car than the D3 but still able to tow my van with ease. It's cheaper to tax and run than the D3.

I would avoid the 19" wheels. They look nice but are a bit uncomfortable.

Thanks for the replys so far
It will be an earlier fl2 as I will have less than 10k to spend my d3 will be worth about 8.5 I guess
spec wise I think I would want
parking sensors
heated front screen
heated seats
Cruise control
xenon headlamps
as these are the things I think I would miss most and are all standard on my s spec
What is the suspension setup on a fl2 is it just old fashoned springs or is it air

Good old springs.

From memory:

Rear parking sensors are on GS upwards
Heated Front Screen pretty much guaranteed on XS upwards
Heated Seats again XS upwards
Cruise Control GS upwards
Xenon headlamps - probably looking at HSE but then not all of them, also on some lower spec models when added to build.

Xenons were not standard on any model till MY13, then only on the HSE Lux, prior to that they were option only from GS upwards Iirc. Not all forecourts pick up on the Xenons, some have been known to think they are Xenons when they are the standard Projector type fitted from MY11 onwards, look by the Headlight Switch, if you can see the adjuster for the Headlight Levelling, they won't be Xenons. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
