Well according to the news we can expect our £195 road tax to be doubled tomorrow, how is this right?, 4by4 cars account for nearly half of sales, this is a big increase in tax collection so why were we charged £100 for co2 offset?, non of this makes sence to me. Where is the money to be spent, looks to me like a chance for further tax increases unless members know better
Or is the intention to stop sales of 4by4?

IMHO, the top level (G's) are more likely to be doubled. I would predict that the group Fs (£190 + £5 diesel surcharge) will go up about 50%. I think this will be the case, as there are a lot of 'family saloons' which also fall into Group F.

In Belgium, we may expect a similar tax increase. CO2 reduction is the key word today, used as an excuse for all kinds of easy money collection. For a Freelander diesel, on top of the 21 % VAT, today we pay already 867 € (578 £) registration tax when we buy the car + yearly 486 € roadtax (324 £) + the taxes on the fuel.
It is still not enough. Catch the money where you can !

Either way if you have offset your CO2 output at purchase (by paying LR) its a double tax having to pay uk.gov again for CO2 output and not know that the additional funds are being put towards carbon reducing projects.
