Clutch going?

As a newbie I've discovered that there are numerous postings regarding clutch issues - too many unfortunately - I don't have the patience to trawl through them all so apologies for raising the topic again.

I've noticed a few times when changing gear (4/5/6) that the revs race a little (200 rpm) then settle down quickly.

I have an 07 TD4 - tows well - reverses well with trailer with no indication of slipping clutch.

It seems odd that all seems well when you'd expect the clutch to be under more load - with no sign of revs racing.

Could there be any other explanation for this paradoxical situation?

Um, if you don't have the patience to read all the very useful information already here you can't really expect us to have the patience to repeat it all for you!

I suggest you take a little time and have a read - it's all there. There are several potential causes of clutch slip, and you'll find plenty of information.

Regarding clutch loading, the clutch is actually under more load under power in the higher gears - engine torque is greater (torque peak is 2000 rpm) and the resistance of the car to acceleration is greater.

Sounds like you have the curse of very early cars.
