behavior of daylights

Good mornings,

We have had our F2 my13 XS now for a month and love it!
One thing we have discovered which seems odd!
The car is fitted with day lights, a string of fairy lights and a spot.
When you indicated the spot on the side of indication goes out and only comes back on when the indicators are turned off!
Is this correct?

Best regards,
Peter

Yes, it is a requirement of quite a few cars, the light is very bright and can mask the indicator, so it is turned off or dimmed during the use of the indicator.

Yes, perfectly normal. Most cars from approx.2012 do this.. Next time you see an Audi indicating, you will notice the same. I believe that it is compulsory, according to another old thread on here, having said that, the Kia Sportage doesn't appear to behave that way when signalling, so who knows!

In answer to your OP, all perfectly normal. Foraging near Gaydon....

Thanks for the explination.

We had sort of deduced that maybe was the answer but all the same given some of threads and bugs in the system I thought I better check before ringing dealer!

Best regards,
Peter.

Welcome to Freel2, Peter, you will find most answers on here, probably more than from a dealer, although we do have dealers on here that are also very helpful, feel free to ask anything Thumbs Up

A certain LR dealer (not the dealer that I placed the order with) tried to tell me the xenons were halogens when the lights were on Rolling with laughter and that the dynamic I looked at didnt have the upgraded stereo which it clearly did as it had the speakers in the rear pillars!!! Hi lr nut.
I'm now well into a love affair with an xs! The mit outlander I had px on the car although was a lot more powerful is no where near the same.
I have now found out that day lights go out when indicator goes on!
Have to admit, don't know how to tell the wife we are having another one.

After now having a 2013 Xenon equipped FL2, if you run the side lights alone, you get just the signature strip glowing, but this doesn't dim when the indicators are on.

As said above, it's only when the full DRL's are on and the round 7 LED section dims. Shame you can't have just the signature strip on as the actual DRL! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I agree Mav. The DRL is much brighter than the signature strip. I often turn my lights on (side lights) during the day if the conditions req greater visibility of the car for other road users, eg I get the rear illuminated too. Often thought the DLR configuration would be better as the sidelight setting and the signature strip as the DLR., Black edition! Previous FL1 04 Td4 3dr HSE.

I think LR have it the wrong way round, the 7LEDs should be side lights IMO with the signature being as it suggests. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I know what you mean. But it is kind of cool with just the signature glowing.

I have Xenon headlights on my Audi with LED DRL's, and the side lights are the LED DRL's but dimmed slightly. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I believe DRLs go out if you switch to sidelights. Lights off or on automatic setting they are on. I'll check in a mo when I go out... if the car has signature strips, they act as the sidelight. No sig strips and the DRL section dims to act as a sidelight when in sidelight mode. Another member said in a post they like to switch on sidelights to have the rear sidelights on as they drive, but the DRL part won't then be in operation from the front. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red
