Hello Mike

2.2 turbo diesel I think 150 BHP. The SD4 is higher power.

Hi, thanks for that but do you happen to know who these engines were made by ? I have seen Peugeot and Ford mentioned somewhere on the forum. 2010 GS TD4e manual Lago Grey

Must admit I've never really thought about it, and assumed they were built entirely by Jaguar Land Rover. I'm sure someone more informed will be along shortly Thumbs Up

MY 10 was a 2.2 litre 160 bhp engine. The SD4 (190)/TD4 (150) engines didn't appear until MY 11. The Freelander 2 uses a DW12 (Ford Duratorq) engine which was co-produced by Ford and Peugeot Citroen, the version in the Freelander is currently built for LR by Ford.

It will and it will have been built for you by Ford, I think at Dagenham.

The new LR engine plant near Wolverhampton is due to start producing engines in 2014 and LR will gradually switch to using its own engines once it is up and running.

The LR version of the engine is different from the Ford Peugeot Citreon.

The new LR built engines will not hit the roads until mid to late 2015. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

The origins as stated above is the DW12 for which google brings up some definitive history.
.
Knowing the 'family background' and needing gaskets which the LR dealer had no stock, I popped round the corner to the Citroen dealer, he confirmed that he knew the DW12 and then showed me the engine top end parts screens. They bear no resemblance whatsoever !!!
.
I have had my freelie engine out to change it and noted that many castings are annotated with all 3 manufacturers names.
.
Kind regards from Fred.

Forgive me, but is this not like the electronics industry?

There are only 3manufacturers of flat screen units that go into all current flat screen tv's, what makes the difference is the way they are set up. Is this not the same for modern day engines?

I seem to remember that many cars/models use the same engine, the transit, the mondeo, the focus, the jag, and some Peugeot & Citroen models all use a version.

I may of course be wrong, according to SWMBO I always am..............  MY2014 SD4 XS

The engine block and the cylinder head are the only (main)things that are the same in all DW12 engines.
My Freelander haves a Peugeot 4007 engine. You can read more here and here

The DW12 engine was at first designed by Peugeot. Later, it was modernised by Ford and looks like it was further modified by Land Lover.
The "transplant" that my Freel suffered was made at a Ford dealer. During the dissasembly, the mechanics were surprised by the number of Ford parts(most of them had the FoMoCo stamp, or a Ford part number). They also said that the car was somewhat similar to the Ford Kuga.
