Automatic, slightly rough changes when hot | |
Per title TD4 HSE Auto 37k miles 10 plate.
Runs as smooth as anything normally, nice smooth changes, timing of changes good, use sport on rural roads, again all fine.
After a couple of major traffic delays and/or a lot of town work, much stop/start with stops not long enough to warrant slipping the box into N the change from 1st to 2nd becomes a little rough. It's almost as if there is a bit of slip, grip, slip and away we go. I am being picky.
The other day after a monster M1 problem it started doing it 2nd to 3rd, and the effect was worse.
However a short stop, say just long enough to refuel, or a few miles steady running, think as little as one or two miles, if as much as that, then the box is completely back to normal.
If it is showing the effect, lighter use of throttle makes it less noticeable, as does using sport mode.
One can be at the end of a long motorway thrash and it doesn't show it, but a few miles of heavy traffic and it appears. As soon as the road opens up, a mile or so and it's fine again.
My guess is that the effect is caused by something getting warm, and then cooling down with getting rolling again.
I mentioned it to my indy and his first thought was a software update. But as it wasn't doing it then to see how it went. That was 7k miles ago, and largely it's been fine. The problem the other day with 2nd to 3rd really focussed when it was happening.
Thoughts? Software. A change of fluid? Filter?
Or is it portent of something expensive.
