Winter Car Kit

I was looking at getting a few things together to put in my boot for winter, just incase I got stuck anywhere. I found a list on the AA website
http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/seaso...klist.html

Ive got most of the items listed but I haven't got any foil blankets, I have seen some on Ebay, 2 for 2 quid

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120962342800?ssP...1438.l2649

With these blankets being so cheap are they any good, are foil blankets generally all the same? Or is it a case of you get what you pay for? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

My winter kit, generally about warmth and comfort

JetBoil Stove, Coffee, Sugar (don't take milk)
Cheap bottled water
A couple of mugshots (like pot noodle but nicer and less bulky) or boil in the bag meals.
Blanket
Hi Vis Coat
Long reach windscreen scraper
At least one torch, usually two.

For really severe weather I'll add a sleeping bag, snow shovel, and extra food supplies.

All year gear (mostly sits in the speare wheel well, door pockets, or Glove box)
Recovery straps and accessories.
Folding shovel
Jump leads
First aid kit
Hi Viz
Replacement bulbs
Basic Took Kit
WD-40 and Duck Tape (don't ever drive a Land Rover without either, you're letting the side down)
VHF/UHF Amateur Radio

Oh, one other thing that I can't praise highly enough for the winter is a buff. These were free with the November LRO if anyone subscribes, and makes a huge difference to how warm you are.

explains what they are... 2011 MY SD4 HSE + planning some interesting stuff

Foil blankets only keep the heat you have in, they don't warm you up like a fleecy travel rug Thumbs Up

Been wearing buffs for years on the bike, around my neck, or over my head under my helmet, but watching that youtube clip I've been missing out on all those stylish ways to wear one for years. That bloke sure knows how to sell them....

I never really venture too far from home in winter, it's a half mile drive so I just have weatherproof clothes and shoes

But since I have a jetboil now, that and a bottle of water will be added for further afield trips Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I keep the basics in my car all year round.

Jacket
Hivis
LR tow rope
Torch
Screen wash
First aid
Warning triangle

I don't need to traval for work so over the top winter prep is not essential. When I get to work that's another story I drive buses for a living and do the intercity express routes, so a lot of motorway driving, I take extra sandwiches with me, water etc just in case I get stuck on the motorway. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Will book the car into the dealers for a winter health check.

I think I get two free a year as part of the Land Rover Allegiance scheme. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Every man for themselves Laughing

Twice I think we've had guys out all night on the motorway. Luckily there was no passengers as the bus was that late getting into Glasgow they had all given up. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Is it good to have a small tool kit in your car? If so, what would you have in it? I've got a Swiss army knife, pair of scissors, 6 inch adjustable spanner and a posi-drive screwdriver. Do I need anything else? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
