Just had FL2 Clutch replaced - pressure plate fault?

I thought people might be interested, I have a 10 reg FL2 with 44k miles, the clutch started slipping recently so I have just had it replaced for £685 at an independent LR specialist (the dual mass flywheel looked OK so left in place) The interesting thing is that the plate itself doesn't look worn too much to me (although I don't know how thick a new one is) so I guess it must be a weak pressure plate problem. Any views ?

incidentally the components have Ford Motor Company stamped on them, Since it's the same engine as a Transit van I wonder if the Ford items are cheaper than landRover?

In the top photo, it looks like one of the 'springy fingers' is bent. That would definitely cause slippage.

The Freelander uses a Peugeot DW12 engine which is built for LR by Ford. The Transit engine is a Ford TDCi Duratorq engine, sometimes also referred to as a Puma engine and is used by LR only in the Defender.

I though that at first too but on closer inspection you can see that that's not one of the diaphragm fingers - if you look in the bottom picture you can see that it is part of the clutch pressure plate body and there's 3 of those 'fingers'. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Doesn't look worn to me either.
Wonder if the auto adjuster had stuck?

Is your clutch okay now? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

"Is your clutch okay now?"

Yes it seems fine now. Previously it would be OK and only slip in 6th if you floored it, then other times t would happen in 3rd. The clutch was also working right at the top of the pedal travel. How would I tell if the "adjuster" had stuck? I assume you are referring to the slave cylinder.

Not the slave cylinder.
There is a mechanical adjuster which automatically takes up wear on the friction plate. They have been known to stick due to clutch dust causing slip Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

No everything looks fine. no sign of oil leakage. Could this be down to the pressure plate loosing some of it "umf" so that it no longer grips so well?

I have just had a very careful look at the pressure plate and there are signs of the moving part scratching. In the first picture there is some clearance around the sticking up bit but three of the six have signs of some rubbing. I wonder if that is enough to stop the pressure plate returning to the "bite" position fully? This looks like a manufacturing fault.
