weekend away with the family,dashed up to centre parks cumbria.The wifes freelander didnt miss a beat ,2 adults, 2 kids and 2 mountain bikes plus clothes and food.Set off and kept a nice constant 70mph and returned 40.8 mpg,which i didnt think was bad? So after an enjoyable weekend i loaded the car and just as i closed the boot noticed the key inside !! too late locked out and no spare.Search the net but no tips on how to get inside for the key,not good.A call to breakdown assistance and the guy turns up and within 10 mins is inside and key back in my hand!! can't say how he did it but it was and eye opener,anyway all back to normal now.Lesson learnt ,always check for key before closing door/boot

Years ago I locked both my keys in my micra! Was about to brick the window when my girlfriend (now the wife) phoned green flag and said she had locked the keys in. Fella came along with a set of tools and said he would be in the car in seconds. He was still at it 20 minutes later! He eventually got in with another tool that opened the door ajar and he could feed in a length of wire to pull on the door handle. There was a thread on here a few months ago where someone had locked the keys in the back while on holiday on the Isle of Wight, he was stuck for a day or so, iirc he went in via the window in the end.

It depends on what patrol man you get also, we had one of our drivers lock the keys in the back of a van, the AA went out, spent 20 minutes getting in to the cab, then another 40 minutes trying to get the window from the bulkhead out so they could reach the keys, ruined the window seal and broke the glass, £180 to put that right, didn't have the brains once they had accessed the cab to press the door unlock by the interior light  p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

You are not alone in locking your keys in the back of your Freelander. I did the same thing at Cadbury World after dropping stuff off in the boot, only realising afterwards I had included the keys as well... it turned out to be an expensive taxi and train ride home with all the family with me returning later that day to pick up the car having collected the spare.

Before going home a locksmith tried to gain entry by picking the emergency lock in the passenger door. He managed to pick it, but because it had never been used in 5 years it was too stiff to turn with his delicate tool. So if anyone can learn from this, it is to at least ensure you regularly lubricate the lock... you may never know when you might need it!

Interestingly also, the clever guys at Land Rover have used the smart key sensors on the 13MY car to prevent you from shutting the boot and it locking if the key is inside... I tried it on mine (with the spare in my pocket!).

Went to Manchester Airport early one morning to pick my son up.
Drove into car park and stopped in parking place then decided to move it nearer the entrance, parked it, waited because I was early then got out to go into the airport building but couldn't find the keys to lock it.

Panicked thinking I had got out at the first parking space and dropped them on the floor, when I walked back to there; no keys!
Went into the airport building to lost property, not open, went back to car still unlocked and would start, therefore keys must be in the car or on me.
I was still searching when my son turned up with his case.
Told him the mess I was in, I didn't want to move it until I had found them.
Lets put case in boot, opened boot and there were the keys!
I had dropped them in the boot when setting off from home, hadn't looked in there because I hadn't gone in the boot while at the airport.
Son used words not suitable for a son to describe his father.

Had a Ford Escort in the early eighties and I managed to lock my keys in the car. I asked the first person who came along if he had a Ford car and he said yes. I borrowed his key and it unlocked my door! Glad that security has improved since then though. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys
