Seems like the French Government have had a change of heart with regards to devices that warn you of Speed Traps. I was emailed this morning by Talex, who advise the following to a question posed to them recently by another member:

"You say that Wikango are one of the biggest speed camera detection companies in France but I thought speed camera detectors were illegal in France?

They are, however... Wikango and Coyote (by far the two biggest speed camera detection companies in France with around two million users between them) formed a lobby group when the legislation was being proposed and the French government subsequently agreed that the devices are 100% legal in France, so long as they alert of other dangers as well as speed traps, such as accidents ahead."

Now, my interpretation of that is that IF you were to download all the Speed Camera/Traps POI's etc etc etc, and IF you were to get a pull in France by the gendarmes, you COULD prove to them that the LR Nav Unit DID alert you of other dangers ahead, by means of TMC...thus complying with the "rules", so to speak. Does anyone else interpret that the same way, or am I just thinking alone on this one?

As there is no reciprocal arrangement with the UK for fixed cameras in France, I shouldn't worry too much. Although perhaps if their mobile sites show up, that might save you a fine.
Or of course, just drive within the speed limits
