I'm afraid you aren't going to get a straight answer to that my friend because I suspect nobody has had both tyres to compare. Those who have used either tyre will support it and I have no reason to doubt the quality of Vredestein tyres.

I can only repeat the following post as it demonstrates usage when purposely venturing out in conditions when it would have been better to crawl under the duvet and hide Laughing

Only just seen this post xtralarg, but I can offer a voice of experience here. Back in the days of my FL2 before it sadly had to go, I got a set of Avon Ranger Ice at £580 including fitting from my local garage. The vreds will be fine and dandy too, no doubts there.

At the time, I was doing voluntary work for Peak 4x4 Response which meant going out into the bleak wilderness of the Peak District occasionally and sometimes local towns. I went out in horrendous snow and ice to help people and help nurses get to elderly patients and the combination of FL2 abilities and winter tyres made progress effortless.

If you get a moment, use street view and search for Old Hill, Ashbourne. I drove the FL2 up there when the road was covered in thick fresh snow and it was so quiet that some kids were building a snowman (I didn't run over the snowman) Laughing

I have now bought the top rated Continental TS850's for my fiesta and am hoping for some snow to test them out. Winter tyres don't provide invincibility though and I still exercise caution and deployed HDC in the FL2 where necessary and slowed down with the gears. HDC is a luxury I no longer have obviously!

Just a shame we can't do a lot about the tw Censored ts who don't know how to drive in snow Rolling Eyes

A little more expensive on there, £136.51 to be exact.

And I've noticed a few prices starting to creep up slowly!

General make good cheap tyres, in my opinion much better than avon. A winter tyre is always going to be better than a summer tyre, and if your budget can stretch beyond the general, spend more.

the 2013 test winners here in sweden without studs are ;

voted best by most - Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2
Second place - Dunlop SP Ice Sport, Pirelli Winter IceControl, Goodyear UltraGrip Ice+
Third place - Continental ContiVikingContact

Other comments - Goodyear UltraGrip Ice+ - Best braking on snow
Michelin X-Ice XI2 - 2011 winner, a very balanced tyre on all conditions

The general look like they are good value for money, I'd say a mid range tyre for near enough budget price.

I think the general snow tires are new out this year, cost about 130 a corner. Then the question is why not add a liitle more and get a better tyre. Choosing my present tyres caused me no end of stress! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

The cheapest I can find the general snow tyres is £108.

Im wondering how they compare to the AT's in the snow and general winter conditions?

I noticed on an old thread (Feb 13) that you mentioned that you ordered AT's. how did they perform in last years snow?

My AT's were fine. Most of my journeys were on treated roads but on the side streets untreated roads the tyres were great. I didn't have any issues at all. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I used Oponeo for my Pirelli winter tyres and they were delivered from Germany in 4 days! Overall, I found their prices and service to be excellent - highly recommended. Remember, their prices include delivery!
