Feel Gutted...

Zac Portrait by npinks, on Flickr

Just heard my brothers dog has passed away, been part of my life and his (obviously even more) for the past 10 years.. Gutted Sad

R.I.P Zac

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Always sad when a pet dies

There is a hole that is left behind. Those that don't own animals find it hard to understand.

I'm a big animal lover I have four cats and five greyhounds. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

It is not easy, we have had dogs in the family, mum and dads, brothers but never my own

Still, love them as my own, there is going to be one massive gap in my brothers, they worked around him, walked him a hour every morning, a good walk at lunch and out again come evening, I guess they will get another in coming months or years as they had talked about getting another Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Blimey, sorry to hear that. Never read that rainbow bridge thing before and got me choked up there. We had a ridgeback puppy when I was at infant school. I grew up with him and he died when I was 18, so so sad but I will see him again one day... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I read the rainbow bridge, over on Disco 3 a few years ago, it was just after the wife's parents having their pet put to sleep too, thought it was very fitting tribute Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

It's one of the few things that chokes me up.

I don't often admit it. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I've always liked this scene from LOTR:

The emotions are captured brilliantly by Mckellen and the words often cross my mind at times like these Sad LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

My sincerest sympathies; I have been lucky enough to temporarily care for many dogs during their all too short time with us in this life.

I echo the thoughts above - their passing leaves a hole of unimaginable proportions.

It is desperately sad now, but time does heal - and soon all you will be left with is the happy memories, with each thought bringing a uncontrollable smile to your face.

Whilst he cannot lay by your fire just now, rest assured he is watching and will wait for you with a wagging tail at the gates to the bridge.

Am so sad to hear of this.
Although death is part of my every day job, I've never felt so utterly heartbroken after the death of my own little cat.
Deepest sympathies extended.

Know how you feel. All my black labs are buried in the pheasant pen and I still have a word with them when I'm up there.
Found this the other day, sad but says it all.

A Dog’s Prayer

If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand;
Don’t let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test.

We’ve had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears,
You’d not want me to suffer so,
The time has come, please let me go.

Take me where my need they’ll tend
And please stay with me until the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see,
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved.

Please do not grieve, it must be you,
Who has this painful thing to do,
We’ve been so close, we two, these years,
Don let you heart hold back its tears.
